Florida Liberals Skeptical of Blue Wave in the Elections: ‘The DNC does not want to spend money in Florida’

Could 2026 be the year?

Florida residents are wondering whether the Sunshine State can finally become a blue state after so many years, as recent data indicates that Democrats could stand a chance of retaking the top office. However, many Florida liberals are not entirely convinced yet, as some believe that it will be difficult to beat the Republicans.

Reports from the Florida Phoenix have recently discussed the upcoming elections. In one of them, the nonpartisan Cook Political Report moved the race from “Solid Republican” to “Likely Republican,” indicating that a Republican win is no longer entirely certain. While Byron Donalds is still expected to become the next governor, the Democrat David Jolly seems to be growing in popularity.

Vox also reported on Angie Nixon’s recent surprising victory in the primaries, which made her the Democratic nominee in the 2026 United States Senate special election in Florida. A member of the Democratic Socialists of America, Nixon seemingly stands a chance of winning, as she will face GOP Sen. Ashley Moody.

Floridians React to Chances of Democrats Winning the Election

These reports on the possibility of finally overturning the bad luck that the Democratic Party has had in Florida have not made locals on r/Florida very enthusiastic about the party’s prospects, however.

One of the main reasons why liberal-leaning voters were not too excited was a lack of financial backing, as one person said: “The DNC does not want to spend money in Florida. It’s one of the gigantic reasons why the state is no longer a purple state.” Someone else added: “The DNC doesn’t have money to spend anywhere. The national organization has been a [expletive] for several election cycles.”

Some also blamed the DNC’s resistance to more progressive candidates: “It’s just a way to dismiss progressive candidates without having to speak to policy. The national Democratic Party’s allegiance is to donors and to the consultant class. Beyond that, the centrists and the corporate democrats are afraid of the progressive and DSA candidates because they are not as reliant on the party apparatus.”

Others had a slightly more positive view of the situation: “Dems will have a chance to run a progressive for Senate and a centrist for governor, and I think it will be a good test to see how both fare in the new political environment in Florida.”

It remains to be seen how the 2026 election will fare for the Democratic Party, but it seems even its voters are not entirely convinced the situation will change anytime soon.
