A recent report revealed that Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show is set to end in 2027, prompting celebrations from many Republicans displeased with the New York host’s Trump hostility over the years. Their celebrations haven’t lasted long, though.
Trump supporters have long criticized Jimmy Kimmel, with the TV host frequently making Donald Trump and his administration targets of his political comedy. Kimmel has openly criticized Trump since his first presidential campaign and has continued mocking his policies, public statements, and behavior throughout both of Trump’s presidencies. His criticism has also reportedly cost him part of his audience, as Kimmel said in 2022 that he believed he had lost roughly half of his fan base because of his coverage of Trump.
For many Trump supporters, Kimmel’s repeated jokes and criticisms have made him a prominent symbol of Hollywood’s opposition to Trump. The comedian has continued to stand by his decision to make Trump a regular subject of his monologues, with his ongoing criticism remaining a major source of hostility between Kimmel and Trump’s supporters.
Trump has also directly targeted Jimmy Kimmel, at one point demanding that Disney and ABC fire the late-night host. In April 2026, Trump called for Kimmel’s immediate dismissal. This was after objecting to a joke the comedian made about First Lady Melania Trump. He described it as a “call to violence.” Melania Trump separately urged ABC to take action against Kimmel, while the comedian defended the joke as satire and said it had been misconstrued. The dispute added another chapter to the long-running feud between Trump and Kimmel.
The hostility between Kimmel and the president’s supporters led many of them to celebrate after reports emerged that his show was ending. Page Six first reported that the upcoming season of ABC’s late-night show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” would be its last.
A source told the publication that “his contract is not getting extended.” However, ABC quickly disputed the report after the news broke. An ABC spokesperson denied the news. They told Page Six that the “information is inaccurate — any reports about the future of the show at this point are purely speculative.” This made the celebrations quickly end.
Trump Supporters Celebrate Over Reported Ending to New York TV Host’s Show
The report that New York TV host Jimmy Kimmel’s show was ending prompted many Trump supporters to celebrate online. “Oh well, good riddance to bad rubbish. He was actually funny while working with Ben Stein,” one person wrote. Another person said, “Kimmel is and always has been a monumentally [expletive] human being.”
More people celebrated the reported news. “This Idiot is so Arrogant that he actually believes that he can say anything. We all need to pray that he loses all the money that he was Overpaid in his career as a First Class [expletive],” one person said. After ABC denied the report, several people continued demanding that the network fire Kimmel. “So they’re waiting to lose another 60 million, [slur]. Cut that. [Expletive] loose now,” another person said. Someone else added, “The guy is a no talent hack, and his show should be canceled THIS YEAR.”
The report about the potential ending of Jimmy Kimmel’s show fueled further discussion about the hostility many Trump supporters have toward the TV host. It also highlighted the importance of waiting for official confirmation before accepting reports about a show’s future as fact.
