Washington’s Ken Jennings Blasts Trump, Reveals How Jeopardy Fights MAGA’s Fake News: ‘If I’m Watching ICE… That’s Going to Make Me Mad’

He’s all about the facts

Ken Jennings is making it clear that his opposition to the Trump administration is not something he plans to hide behind the podium of Jeopardy!. The longtime Washington-born host recently explained how the game show itself can push back against the political climate surrounding Donald Trump, arguing that simply presenting facts to millions of Americans can be meaningful in an era of misinformation.

Jeopardy’s Ken Jennings: “Law enforcement kidnapping my neighbors, my trans friends and family not having the same rights they did, women not having the same health rights they did for 50 years. Like these things actually affect me. It's not a soapbox and it's not performative. I’m just a person.”

Jennings made the comments during an appearance on Who’s With Me? with W. Kamau Bell, where he discussed his political beliefs and his approach to speaking publicly about issues that matter to him. The Jeopardy! host pointed to several issues that he said affect him personally, including immigration enforcement, transgender rights and women’s health care.

“Law enforcement kidnapping my neighbors, my trans friends and family not having the same rights they did, women not having the same health rights they did for 50 years,” Jennings said. “Like these things actually affect me. It’s not a soapbox and it’s not performative. I’m just a person.” He also pushed back against the idea that remaining politically outspoken could threaten his role on television.

“Jeopardy! is so important to me, but if I had to sacrifice either my favorite game show or my convictions of right and wrong, that’s not really a close call,” he said. Jennings specifically described watching ICE activity as something that could motivate him to take action.

“If I’m watching ICE in the Twin Cities, there we go. That’s going to make me mad,” he said, adding that he might attend a protest rather than simply react in anger. His argument about Jeopardy! itself was more subtle. Jennings said the show’s commitment to facts and evidence can serve as a foil to misinformation and fake news, regardless of a viewer’s political affiliation.

People have praised the Jeopardy! host

The Jeopardy! host was also well-aware of the blatant propaganda that many conservative or right-wing talking heads spread and wants people to be aware of it. “No matter what the podcaster told you about vaccines, these are the facts, and we will cite our sources if you need us to.”

The show has a broad audience spanning red and blue states, he noted, and for its half-hour runtime, viewers can agree that factual answers matter. That message resonated strongly with many viewers online. “These are all common sense stances too. They shouldn’t be controversial,” one commenter wrote, adding that they did not expect the Jeopardy! host to “be leading the revolution.”

Another praised Jennings for recognizing that harm to other people can still affect him personally, writing, “I loved how Ken Jennings emphasized that when others are attacked, that does affect him!” For Jennings, the message appears straightforward: Jeopardy! may not be a political show, but defending facts, knowledge, and basic convictions can still carry political weight.
