New York actress Tovah Feldshuh is facing criticism online after sharing a post targeting Zohran Mamdani and Abdul El-Sayed that viewers have described as racist and Islamophobic.
Tovah Feldshuh is an actress, singer, and playwright with an extensive career in television, film, and theater, particularly on Broadway. A six-time Emmy and Tony Award nominee, she has appeared in numerous productions, including Yentl, Golda’s Balcony, Pippin, and Funny Girl. Her television credits include Deanna Monroe in The Walking Dead, Naomi Bunch in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, defense attorney Danielle Melnick in Law & Order, and Bina Roklov in Netflix’s Nobody Wants This. She has also appeared in films such as Kissing Jessica Stein, A Walk on the Moon, and Armageddon Time.
On her Threads account, Feldshuh shared a post that many viewed as Islamophobic. It featured two pictures, one of Mamdani and another of Abdul El-Sayed, alongside the message: “Muslims have never assimilated peacefully in 1,400 years. Socialism has never worked in 200 years. And you want to people to vote for both?” Mamdani is the Democratic mayor of New York City, while El-Sayed is the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Michigan. Both men are Muslim.
The post drew accusations of Islamophobia for making a sweeping generalization about Muslims and claiming that they had never assimilated peacefully in 1,400 years. Critics argued the statement portrayed an entire religious community as unable to coexist peacefully with other societies.
Critics also argued that pairing the two Muslim politicians with claims about both Islam and socialism targeted their religious identities rather than focusing solely on their individual political views or policies.
Fans Slam New York Actress Over Islamophobic Post
Many viewers online criticized New York actress Tovah Feldshuh over the post, which they considered Islamophobic. “Oh she’s always been a nut. Good actress but a total loon,” one person wrote. Another commented, “What a disgusting racist thing to post.” Someone else added, “Oh here we go. How is such open racism and Islamophobia allowed on Threads? I’m reporting this post and everyone should too. Hate speech has no place here.”
Other viewers continued criticizing Feldshuh over the post, with some questioning her claims about Muslim assimilation and others pointing to what they saw as inconsistent treatment of Islamophobia and antisemitism. “This is so weird. Muslims have assimilated peaceful into the US and all over the world. When have CHRISTIANS assimilated peacefully?” one person asked.
The post raised concerns about celebrities using their platforms to spread harmful stereotypes about religious and ethnic groups. It also highlighted the importance of holding public figures accountable when they share content that viewers consider racist or Islamophobic.
