This week at Gamescom 2018 we got a lot of new information and updates on the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077. After being properly shown at E3 2018 in a teaser trailer, and gameplay demos being held behind closed doors, many fans speculated on when we could be getting our hands on the final product. This week at Gamescom, Engaget got this quote from Richard Borzymowski, the producer on Cyberpunk 2077:

Cyberpunk 2077 has been in development for at least six years and its team recently hit a major milestone: The entire game is playable from start to finish. It doesn’t have all of the proper assets, playtesting or bug fixes in place, but seeing the story come together is a critical step in the development process.

This is indeed a huge milestone for the development team and gives some hope to fans who want to play the game sooner than later. After the game was briefly teased before CD Project Reds last game, The Witcher: Wild Hunt, the game had gone quiet until recently. This news leads me to believe that the team has been working diligently even during the development of The Witcher: Wild Hunt.

CD Project Red gave a few different little tidbits on Cyberpunk 2077 throughout Gamescom. The developers showed a few new pieces of concept art that give a better look at the setting and characters that you will see in the game. Additionally, they held another behind closed doors demo for press to see the game in action. Many publications reported that the demo was similar to the one shown at E3 but with a few different choices made. Most importantly the character that was being played in this demo was the male protagonist. This showed the differences in dialogue and world interaction based off of the player’s gender.

With all the news out of Gamescom 2018, it seems that Cyberpunk 2077 is shaping up nicely. Fans should set their expectations around playing it in late 2019 or early 2020.
