U.S. Representative Bresnahan has entered the spotlight in a negative way recently after promoting anti-data center legislation while having investments in companies in the sector. This enraged some Pennsylvania residents, who believed that the Republican politician running for reelection was being insincere in his proposals.

As reported by CBS News, Bresnahan is currently promoting a bill that could give local governments more power over whether data centers can be built. In a recent ad, the Republican has reportedly used this bill to champion himself as a defender of the people against large corporations.

However, Bresnahan owns stocks in companies such as Equinix, Digital Realty Trust, and Iron Mountain, for example, which operate large-scale data centers. He has also reportedly invested in many tech firms that also have ties with AI.

This led the politician to be attacked by his Democratic opponent, Paige Cognetti, who does not own individual stocks. According to the outlet, Bresnahan’s campaign has defended the Representative, saying that financial advisers manage his portfolio and that he does not choose his trades.

Pennsylvania Reacts to Republican Candidate

On Reddit’s r/Pennsylvania, locals criticized Bresnahan, calling him a “nepo baby” and a “hypocrite” for his political positions and investments. Others criticized his party affiliation: “He’s a Republican. Lying and hypocrisy are on brand.”

Someone said: “Yeah. Like a hypocrite. He’ll turn heel on the people the second he gets in. Campaign promises mean nothing to any politician, but the GOP seems to love acting exactly opposite of what they campaign on.”

Others agreed, reminding people of the earlier criticism Bresnahan received due to accusations of insider trading: “He campaigned on stopping insider stock trading and continues to do it himself. His commercials show him giving a fuck about healthcare while voting for the BBB. He’s a slippery loser with Lego hair.”

What most seemed to agree on, however, was that they were in favor of Cognetti, as multiple users told their peers to “vote him out.”

It remains to be seen who will be the next U.S. Representative of Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District and whether the Republican Party will hold the seat or lose it to the Democrats.
