Vivian Jenna Wilson, Elon Musk’s transgender daughter, has become publicly estranged from her father. She legally changed her name and took her mother Justine Wilson’s surname in 2022, and has spoken publicly about their strained relationship. Musk has also made public comments about Vivian and her transition, while Vivian has criticized her father and distanced herself from him. Their relationship has remained largely fractured, with both making public statements that have highlighted the extent of their estrangement.
A viral video showed Vivian at a fashion show during New York Fashion Week. Her outfit drew backlash and mockery online, with some viewers describing it as unusual. In the video, Vivian walked during the show while carrying a giant inflatable bag on her back, which became one of the main aspects of her appearance that viewers commented on.
At one point in the video, Vivian posed as photographers at the fashion show took pictures of her. Before appearing at New York Fashion Week, Vivian had already done some modeling-related work. She made her modeling debut on the cover of Teen Vogue in March 2025 and later appeared in a campaign for the queer clothing brand Wildfang.
Her appearance at New York Fashion Week followed the attention surrounding a Desigual campaign in which she was shown confronting and mistreating a humanoid robot resembling Tesla’s Optimus. The campaign focused on individuality, creativity, and rejecting conformity, while the robot’s resemblance to Tesla technology drew additional attention given her estranged relationship with Elon Musk. Shortly afterward, she appeared on the runway in the unusual outfit featured in the viral video.

The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers, particularly Musk supporters, began mocking Vivian over her fashion show appearance, with a majority of the comments also intentionally misgendering her. “This is stupidity, some child are in need of their parents, ready to do anything legal just to see their parent happy, but this one chose to rebel against his dad, the no uno richest person on the earth. This life no balance, what others are crying for is not what others are rejecting. Hahah, this generation is crazy,” one person wrote.
More people criticized Vivian over her appearance and her estranged relationship with her father. One person wrote, “Crazy that he hates his dad but the only reason why anyone cares about him is because… his dad.” Another person said, “What a loser! They’re performative losers and he’d be NOTHING if his dad wasn’t a billionaire! Basically, he’s a [expletive] nepo baby‼” Someone else added, “Making a career from the person he hates most in life, yeah, ok.”
The video also raised discussion about the criticism and intentional misgendering Vivian faces in connection with her father and his supporters. It further highlighted how, despite distancing herself from Musk, some people continue to claim that she depends on her father’s name and wealth.
