Convenience stores across Florida often run deals to bring in more customers. Sometimes, a few folks turn a good bargain into something bigger. When store promotions rely on trust, they often draw people aiming to get more than what’s on offer. Recently, a video from Florida captured one such moment when shoppers arrived determined to maximize their gains from a $1.99 deal. However, everything went downhill after that – at least that’s what the internet thinks.
The footage features individuals at a store’s self-serve drink station using containers much larger than standard cups. A woman is seen proving just how far people will go for a good deal. She is surrounded by several kids and is busy filling up big plastic buckets, containers, and even bags with Slurpee and fountain drinks. They go for blue, red, and orange flavors, pouring these drinks into the oversized vessels one after another. All this for just $1.99, a price meant for a regular cup.
The video has text that says something like “bring your own cup day we here 199 will get you filled up,” spiced up with fire and laughing emojis. Initially, the video appeared on Instagram thanks to user @bri2funny31. Soon after, it found its way to X through @ViralVideos and quickly gained attention.
The X poster described it as an example of “EBT activities,” suggesting a connection to food stamp use. They also threw in a complaint about how this behavior is the reason “we can’t have nice things.”
Internet Reacts to Florida Bucket Slurpee Video
Some people criticized the actions in the clip, while others used it as a springboard for a wider discussion about trust and public aid. One commenter wrote, “We are becoming a low-trust society.” Another made a similar point, recalling, “Folks like this drove all-you-can-eat buffets in a certain California City out of business. I remember watching a customer with a plastic bag spooning pounds of chicken and ribs into the bag. When the poor waitress objected that it was all you could eat on premises, the big Lord I asked Thomas knocked her out.”
A third went further, saying, “What a revealing video. ‘Social welfare’ is a hand up for 5% of people. For the other 95%, it’s the biggest mechanism in history for perpetuating lifelong laziness, entitlement & dependency. Make babies, avoid work, vote Democrat = the life plan. Rinse & repeat ad infinitum.”
Other commenters focused more on the store and the children in the video. One wrote, “And remember that store is trying hard to make money, and it’s a shame that these people have to try to take advantage of everything that comes in good faith.” Another pushed back on the haul itself, saying, “That is just disgusting just because you can doesn’t mean you should. If I allowed myself the most *expletive* up cheat day every month I still wouldn’t drink a TUB of that blue sludge.”
A final comment turned to the kids present, noting, “One of the saddest things is she’s teaching the kids there is no shame in our game.”
Convenience stores like 7-Eleven occasionally host ‘Bring Your Own Cup Day.’ Customers can bring any container and fill it with a Slurpee or fountain drink for a single low price, typically around $1.99. The promotion relies on the assumption that people will choose reasonably sized containers instead of taking advantage of the deal. Yet, some folks can’t resist pushing the boundaries of this so-called trust.
