A woman in Columbia, Maryland, was hospitalized following a family altercation. As she was being discharged, a group of police officers met her. She was immediately placed under arrest.
The arrest was posted online by Seven Mayes. She is a content creator who often shares a variety of clips, including interactions with law enforcement agents. The clip attached above became her biggest one yet in less than a day. It garnered 3.3 million views, 402,800 likes, and more than 3,400 comments.
The Maryland woman was seen walking inside a local hospital. According to her, she had just been discharged. Upon entering a room, she encountered six different police officers from the Howard County Police Department. A female officer approached her and began to explain the situation.
“So, we do have a warrant. They said you were aware of the warrant, though,” the officer said.
Seven asked for clarification, and the officer said it was a warrant for her arrest. The officer then told her she would be booked and that the local sheriff’s office would take over with her case. Seven then handed over her cellphone when asked.
Much Needed Context
The viral clip missed some of the context behind Seven’s arrest. She, however, shared a different clip from earlier, during which she detailed what had led to her being placed in handcuffs. According to the Maryland woman, it all stemmed from a protective order filed against her.
She claimed that her mother had filed the protective order right after she decided to move out of her home. As she was retrieving her belongings, an officer served her with papers. After she left, she remembered that she had left her iPad behind and returned to her mother’s home. That’s when she was told by police officers that she had allegedly violated the protective order in question.
“The situation escalated into an arrest, during which I sustained physical and mental injuries and requested medical assistance. I was ultimately taken to the hospital and stayed overnight,” Seven wrote in the comments.
Reactions
Some viewers, perhaps not fully aware of what had occurred before Seven’s hospitalization, criticized the hospital and the officers. One said, “That might be a lawsuit.” Another one commented, “That’s a HIPAA violation. They’re not allowed to call.”
Others, meanwhile, told the Maryland woman she shouldn’t have returned home. One wrote, “You should have asked friends to pick your stuff up from your house.” Another one added, “Girl, you gotta call someone to do that, no matter if the thing is true or not. That’s why you were arrested.”
According to Seven, she now faces criminal charges and is preparing for court.
