Grand Theft Auto 6 fans have already proven they’re willing to spend big for the biggest game of this decade. Publisher Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has mentioned that the $100 Ultimate Edition preorders have reached ‘unprecedented levels.’ But apparently, even hype has its limits. Rockstar has now unveiled a massive $400 GTA 6 Collector’s Box filled with Vice City goodies. The catch? There’s still no copy of GTA 6 inside — and gamers aren’t impressed with the offerings anyway.
On its social media, Rockstar announced the Grand Theft Auto VI: The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection. Priced at $399.99, the limited-edition box launches alongside the game on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox and contains ‘all the essentials’ for a good time. Ironically, the game itself doesn’t seem to be part of that time.
Instead, buyers get 11 collectibles headlined by a six-inch Macca the Gator figure with a hidden stash compartment. Together with any die-hard GTA collector’s holy grail — the double-sided Leonida map poster — it also comes with:
- Oakley Frogskins sunglasses.
- A New Era snapback.
- Leonida Keys crossbody bag.
- Magnetic mirror
- Chunkee the Manatee shot glass.
- Vice City swizzle spoon and keychain
- Leonida Keys enamel pin set.
- And premium stickers.
The GTA 6: The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection Collector’s Edition reveal instantly drew scathing comments, even from hardcore fans. “Greediest company on the planet actually. get the #@%& out of here with that $400 price tag,” wrote one reply on X. Another chimed in with, “$400 for an ugly statute and some cheap hats and a shot glass and no game included is insane. Will pass ✌️”
The same sentiment is echoed on Reddit. “I was ready to purchase a collectors edition from the beginning but this is hot garbage,” one disappointed fan complained. Someone else posted an even more brutal comment, “If you buy this you are legitimately an NPC there’s no way that price is real.”
While disappointing, this isn’t too big a surprise, since Rockstar has pulled this trick before. Red Dead Redemption 2 had a $99.99 Collector’s Box containing physical goodies like a lockbox, playing cards, and a challenge coin. The actual game, though, was sold separately. It wasn’t nearly as expensive either, even after accounting for inflation.
Truth be told, the GTA 6 Collector’s Edition includes legitimate premium items, particularly the Oakley sunglasses and New Era hat. But when the entire package costs five times the Standard Edition and still asks you to buy the game separately? It’s easy to see why some fans aren’t having a good time.
