An Alabama construction worker/inspector was called out to an area that is on his radar now for having the “worst foundations around.” In his recent TikTok video, he shows exactly what he means and what he shows is horrifying. For some of these homes, it’s surprising they are still standing. But now people are asking, why are the foundations crumbling in this area?
Brad (@duesouthbrad) works in inspection and construction for homes in Alabama. He was recently called out to an area for an inspection near Heritage Estates, an Alabama neighborhood. The area was built on Wragg Swamp back in the 1800s and, because of this, the homes have sunk inward. He tells his audience, “This is a neighborhood with some of the worst foundations” as he shows any homeowner’s nightmare.
The homes he shows off have terrifying foundation issues to the point where some of the homes are crumbling. One has foundational cracks that go through its entirety. Some of the homes have shifted on their foundation and walls have separated entirely. He shows another that looks fine on the surface but then he points out, “See how the roof is all bowed and twisted up?” Another sinks down on both sides, showing that the entire foundation is broken in the middle of the home. Brad states, “Insanity. And you can’t even sell these houses because they’re that bad,” implying that the owners are stuck there.
The video immediately sparked reactions from concerned commenters. As one commenter asked, “So, what do you do if your house ends up like this? Like what is even the solution? Houses aren’t cheap.” One commenter replied, “Build a time machine and go slap the person who thought building on top of a swamp was a good idea.” Another stated, “They should have had the foundation leveled years ago. Now they are stuck. The foundation and repairs will cost more than the house is worth. Live there until it falls down. Investor buys the property and tears it down, slaps up a new build 10x the price and moves on.”
Another commenter asked, “How are these houses not condemned???” Another wondered, “They still let people live in those houses? They would be considered unsafe structures here and have big red stickers all over it.” Commenters continue to speculate on the safety of the homes in this area built over a swamp. They share their opinions and reactions as the video gains popularity.
