Massachusetts Residents Celebrate as Senate Pushes for Duplex Homes to Fight Housing Crunch: ‘Yes! A Thousand Times Yes!’

That’s one way to fix it

Massachusetts Duplex Homes Proposal

There are many things affecting those in Massachusetts, but it seems that one that has hit a lot of citizens, especially those looking to live in this state, is the housing crunch. As you know, this place is among the worst when it comes to providing homes to some people, with many saying the costs are too high for them, while also dealing with zoning issues, among other things. Well, it seems that might be over, as the Massachusetts Senate might have a solution, and it involves duplex homes.

‘Simple but incredibly meaningful’: Mass. Senate wants to allow for more duplexes in bid to ease housing crunch (Boston Globe)

Not long ago, an article by The Boston Globe reached the state’s subreddit, and it talks about how the Senate is looking for ways to get rid of the housing crunch, or at least lower it.

According to the report, the Democratic Senate leaders are looking for ways to mitigate the housing situation in the state, and the best approach, according to them, would be building more duplex homes. The great thing about this is that these homes could be built in any residential zone, meaning it would be faster and would allow more people to finally have a roof in the state.

Another reason why duplex homes were the first suggestion is that Senator Julian Cyr believes they are part of the so-called “middle housing,” which is something people don’t see much of in Massachusetts. This would provide a more accessible way to rent or purchase a home in residential zones that already exist.

With the news, many citizens in the state agreed that it was an excellent idea, with almost no drawbacks, as almost everyone would benefit from these duplex homes.

Massachusetts Residents Love the ‘Duplex Homes’ Idea

Normally, whenever an idea like this one gets out there, we tend to see some people pushing against it. Well, in the case of Massachusetts, it seems the reactions are mostly positive, meaning that people are on board with the Senate.

“Yes! A thousand times yes!“

“Awesome. Let’s get building.“

And while there is a lot of positivity surrounding this news, other Redditors are already asking authorities for a few things to make these duplex homes comfortable for all.

“Okay, but for the love of God, can we make the builders put a strong enough wall between the units that there’s sound privacy? I’m tired of being in multifamily dwellings where the drywall between me and my neighbor has less sound insulation than a shower curtain.“

We’ll still have to wait and see what comes out of this proposal, but many are already on board with it and hope it becomes a reality soon.
