Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy invoked Charlie Kirk’s support for open political debate while pressing Amy Acton to debate him. He argued politicians who preach democracy should practice it publicly. The remarks drew attention because Ramaswamy used Kirk’s legacy to strengthen his case against Acton.
Ramaswamy made the remarks on The Charlie Kirk Show while speaking with host Andrew. He first accused Acton of benefiting from Democratic dark money while criticizing its influence. He also claimed her campaign used false attacks while refusing to meet him on a debate stage.
The conversation then shifted to Kirk and his approach to political disagreement. Ramaswamy described Kirk as a friend who valued peaceful but vigorous public debate. “What did he want? Open political dialogue through peace,” he said.
He argued Acton’s refusal conflicted with calls to protect democratic principles. “These people who will preach about democracy are unwilling to actually practice what they preach,” he said. He then directly challenged Acton to participate.
“At minimum, Amy Acton should show up,” Ramaswamy said. He added that she should “leave the stage” if she remained unwilling to debate. The host agreed before urging viewers to support Ramaswamy’s gubernatorial campaign.

Online responses quickly focused on Ramaswamy’s use of Kirk’s legacy, with critics and supporters disputing the comparison.
“Charlie didn’t die for this,” one user wrote. Another response stated, “If Charlie were alive you wouldnt be on the show. Those two traitors would be fired.”
A separate user wrote, “If Charlie knew you’d turn your back on him, @VivekGRamaswamy, he certainly would not have given you his friendship and support.” Another declared, “You are everything Charlie stands against!!!”
Others defended Ramaswamy. “Thank you @AndrewKolvet. Yes, @charliekirk11 did support Vivek,” one response stated. Another wrote, “To be honest I would be afraid to debate Vivek too!! He’s one of the sharpest people I’ve ever seen!!!”
Acton’s participation in a debate remains unresolved. The dispute over Ramaswamy’s appeal to Kirk’s legacy also continues.
