A mother in Washington has publicly expressed her anger toward her school district after a series of events involving her daughter. According to her, her child’s teacher forced the girl outside while it was raining after she tried to contact her mother during a power outage.
Sydney, also known as Your Child Support Bestie, shared the troubling accusation online. She often posts about relationship advice, as well as co-parenting and custody rants and reactions. The clip attached above was far more personal, and it went viral in less than a day. It garnered 168,600 likes, 21,000 likes, and more than 800 comments.
While sitting in her car, the Washington woman began her rant directed at her daughter’s teacher and the Bethel School District. She began by claiming a teacher forced her daughter to wait outside in the rain for minutes.
Providing context, Sydney showed two pictures, supposedly taken by her daughter. One was pitch black, and the other was pinkish. According to her, the girl snapped both pics inside her portable classroom, with the dark one being the classroom and the pink one a selfie. Because of the storm, the school had a power outage.
“When the power goes out at my house, which is pretty close to her school, I immediately contact her school, and I say, ‘Hey, what’s the protocol?‘” The Washington mother said. “[…] The front lady says, ‘Oh my gosh, no worries, we’re on a generator. Everything’s fine. We have cold lunches. Everything is business as usual. Don’t worry about it. We’re great.”
Waiting In The Rain
However, Sydney said she received photos from her daughter, who also said it was cold and dark. She drove to the school to pick her daughter up, but instead of finding her inside her classroom, she found her outside in the rain, she claimed. Allegedly, the teacher had kicked her out for using her phone.
Meanwhile, the mother confronted the school’s authorities and showed them the photos her daughter sent. According to her, they told her daughter she shouldn’t have a phone and that there was no emergency whatsoever. Sydney emphatically and expletively disagreed, and things only got worse when she finally saw her daughter, all drenched in rainwater.
“Bethel School District allows children to sit in cold, dark classrooms all day without ever notifying their parents! That’s [expletive]!” Sydney wrote in her video’s description.
Reactions
The 5-minute-long clip sparked multiple responses, mainly from similarly concerned parents. One said, “This is why they don’t want phones in school.” Another one commented, “Punishment by making her wait in the rain… In case you didn’t know, you can call DHS on the school.”
Viewers continued to take issue with how the school allegedly handled the situation and communication. One wrote, “Even if you agree a dark room isn’t an emergency, the lady flat-out lying on the phone IMMEDIATELY makes it one.” Another one added, “Wild behaviour on the school’s part.”
Sydney has not yet posted an update about her daughter’s incident. It is unclear if she will take action against the school or if her daughter will move schools.
