The talk of the town lately has certainly been the World Cup, and while many are enjoying the matches, some are sharing a few PSAs. One example is a concerned Reddit user from Miami, Florida, who talked about how to properly protect your kids’ ears during a World Cup match. While they gave excellent advice on ear muffs and other matters, the post sparked a debate, with some soccer fans believing that kids should not attend these events.
User CellistSuspicious492 shared a few pictures on the Miami, Florida, subreddit, which show a few screens from World Cup matches with the decibels you can expect at the stadium. The range is between 114 and 129 dB. As OP mentions, 129dB exceeds what is deemed safe by a lot, which would certainly harm a kid’s ears. They also added that the Hearing Health Foundation says that any sound above 120dB could be dangerous to your hearing.
The focus of the post on the Miami, Florida subreddit, however, was on kids attending these matches, as OP suggested that parents should see ear muffs as a must-have for these games. And while that is certainly a great idea and piece of advice, it seems many people disagree about parents bringing their children to the World Cup.
Some started saying you could bring kids as long as they were old enough to be there, while others said parents should stay home and watch matches with their kids—it turned into a full-blown debate.
Florida Debates On Parents Bringing Kids to World Cup Matches
While some agreed with OP’s ear muffs suggestion, a few mentioned that some parents are irresponsible, as it seems some are bringing extremely young kids to these matches.
“They’ll show people in the crowd holding their 2-month-old, and I ask myself – Who brings an infant to a sporting event? Parent of the Year right there.“
Some adults also agreed that the matches are way too loud, even for someone without kids.
“Yeah, this was the only point where it got uncomfortably loud. I was afraid it’d be like that the whole match, but luckily, it calmed down.“
And of course, a few just thought the best course of action was to stay at home.
“Stay home, dude, and watch it from the comfort of your living room.“
In the end, many shared their opinions but never reached an actual agreement. But many do think that kids should stay home, as these loud events could damage their hearing.
