A Missouri mother was criticized online after sharing that she let her young daughter get a nose piercing despite her age.
At first, the mother shared a TikTok post containing three slides. The first picture showed her daughter as a baby with the phrase “Mom can I get my nose pierced?” written over it. The second picture showed the mother with her children alongside a sentence representing what she had told her daughter. “Nose pierced??? You’re just a baby?” she wrote.
The third slide in the post was what caused the controversy online. It showed the little girl after she got the nose piercing she had wanted. “Still my baby,” the mother wrote in the caption. Some viewers believed that the daughter was too young to be allowed to get a nose piercing, even if she wanted one.
After receiving backlash, the mother left a comment under the post saying, “Oh lmao she is young but not a baby. And not 9 she asked me and we got it professionally done. Is this not the same as an ear piercing?”
She then added another comment explaining that they have boundaries in their relationship and defending her decision to allow her daughter to get the piercing. “We have boundaries within our relationship and she knows that. It’s a nose piercing. It is not that serious. She’s an awesome kid. Plays sports. Hunts. Has been working hard in school. Helps with her siblings when needed. She’s responsible. Judging off of a few second video is silly but that is okay,” she wrote.
The mother later shared another video showing the moment her daughter got the nose piercing. Despite the backlash she received, she continued defending her daughter’s choice and her decision to allow her to get the piercing.

After seeing the pictures and videos shared by the Missouri mother, many viewers criticized her for allowing her daughter to get a nose piercing. They argued that she was still too young for one. “I know you the mom, but girrrl, she’s still a baby!” one person wrote. Another person said, “Yeah you outta yo damn mind.”
More people continued criticizing the mother, with one person telling her, “It’s okay to say no sometimes though…” Another person said, “I actually want to know what piercer would do a nose piercing on a kid so young…” Others defended the mother and believed that she had not done anything wrong. “IT IS JUST A HOLE! IT IS NOT PERMANENT! I got my belly button pierced when I was 12, monroe piercing when I was 14, tongue at 15, and nose at 16,” someone wrote.
