Controversial White Supremacy Group Sparks Backlash With ‘Racism Works’ Sign in Ohio: ‘Nazis That’s What They Are’

A white supremacist group sparked backlash online after pictures circulating online appeared to show its members in Ohio carrying a sign that read, “racism works.”

After the group was seen in the streets of Ohio, a picture was shared online showing what appeared to be a protest involving its members. They wore matching outfits that concealed their faces while standing in the street. Some members held two flags featuring a Nazi symbol, while a sign read, “racism works.”

Another post was shared later that included more pictures of the group. The group was identified as Blood Tribe, a neo-Nazi and white supremacist organization founded by Christopher Pohlhaus in the United States. The group has become known for holding demonstrations featuring Nazi imagery, including swastika flags, and has organized protests targeting LGBTQ+ communities, immigrants, and other minorities.

The pictures shared in the second post also included the racist sign and Nazi flags. One of the images appeared to show the group walking down the street. It was claimed online that the group left the area after residents began showing up. “Yep. When the town started showing up, they took off. True cowardice,” one comment read.

In this situation, police would not necessarily have grounds to arrest or remove the group solely for displaying Nazi flags or holding a sign promoting racism. The First Amendment generally protects offensive and unpopular expression, including hateful political speech, unless the conduct crosses into an unlawful category.

In Ohio, police could potentially intervene if protesters engaged in violence, threatened people, unlawfully obstructed public streets, or committed another offense. Ohio law, for example, prohibits hindering the movement of people on public streets. This is especially when the conduct has no lawful or reasonable purpose. The reported display of the signs and flags alone would not automatically establish grounds for an arrest.

Viewers Outraged After White Supremacy Group Shows Up in Ohio

Many viewers expressed outrage after seeing the pictures of the white supremacist group in Ohio. Some commenters also claimed that local residents did not welcome the group or the messages it was displaying. “Nazis. That’s what they are,” one person wrote. Another person said, “Make no mistake. These numb nuts, if they vote at all, vote Republican. MAGA, you gotta ask yourself why.”

More people continued criticizing the group and its protest. “Protesting what exactly? The political party that aligns perfectly with their beliefs controls every branch of the government,” one person wrote. Another person said, “I hope people can go out there and bully them. All of them are scared little babies on the inside, go make them feel like it.”

The sight of the white supremacist group prompted discussion about how people with such views are perceived by local communities. It also led some viewers to argue that the group’s members should be identified and held accountable for any unlawful conduct associated with their demonstrations.
