A California family decided to put in a special driveway at their home so their daughter would have a safe place to play. Unfortunately, a building inspector soon confronted them about this, saying that another “driveway” was not permitted. They decided to fight back by doing something about it but said the township won’t budge.
Leslie (@lllleslieeee) says that what she and her family recently faced at their home is a “complete joke.” She shows the fact that a crew came and poured a beautiful walkway for them at their California home. Why? They did it so their young daughter would have a safe place to play at their home. But pretty soon, they were confronted by a local building inspector, who said the walkway wasn’t allowed.
Three days after pouring the concrete for their walkway, an inspector shows up at their home, which Leslie caught on her Ring camera. The inspector, David, tells them that he’s giving them a “red tag” for what they did to their property. According to him, “You can’t have a third-car driveway in the city” of McFarland. Leslie and her husband never set rebar under the concrete and it’s not actually a driveway – it’s a pathway. The building inspector says that they aren’t allowed to have that concrete section there, and adds, “Nobody else has it.”
Leslie and her husband tried to fight back by showing that there are actual second driveways attached to several homes in the city. On top of that, they claim the building inspector was there before the company started pouring the pathway and said nothing to them until after the fact. They also went down to the City of McFarland township hall to speak with somebody there. Leslie said that the employees “laughed in our faces like this is a joke.” She adds, “The money spent isn’t a joke; the time invested isn’t a joke.”
The video immediately sparked reactions from commenters, many of whom felt angry on behalf of Leslie and how her family was allegedly treated. One commenter simply asked, “Do we ever really own our property?” Another commenter suggested, “So he waited until it was done like what?? Lawyer up because it’s YOUR property. That’s so annoying.”
Others, however, took the side of the building inspector in this situation. As one commenter mentioned, “You’re not able to have a third car driveway in some cities. The gentleman is correct per your city’s code.” Another commenter quipped, “I’m too European for this.” The video continues to receive reactions and opinions from commenters as Leslie shares her story.
