A Florida teacher is melting hearts online after showing the small things she and her husband have been doing for a middle school student who waits for his bus near their driveway every morning. The couple’s kindness was praised by netizens on TikTok, where the video has gained over 2 million views and 400,000 likes within hours of being posted.
The fifth-grade teacher, who posts under the TikTok handle @teacherandtraveler, explained that she and her husband had noticed the boy sitting on the ground at the edge of their driveway while waiting to be picked up for school. His family would drop him off at the spot in the mornings, and after repeatedly seeing him sitting there, the couple decided they could make his wait a little more comfortable.
So they bought him a bench.
Footage from the couple’s Nest camera captured the boy arriving at his usual spot and discovering the bench. He immediately looked so excited about the surprise, jumping up and down the driveway.
The couple even made it official with a little “Bus Stop” sign.
The boy appeared to appreciate the gesture so much that he left the family a handwritten thank-you note. “Hello, this is from the kid that waits for the bus at your house,” he wrote. “Thank you so much for putting that bench there! Now I dont have to worry about dirt and bugs, I appreciate it a ton!”
But the couple wasn’t finished.
They later added a small wooden box, covered with cartoon characters, beside the bench, turning the spot into a tiny outdoor library stocked with books for him to read while he waited. They also included a note for the boy, thanking him for his letter and promising that the bench would be available to him for however long he needed it.
Once again, their camera captured his reaction. The boy wasted little time checking out his newest surprise, opening the box and going through the collection of books inside.
Viewers Want to Help With the Bus Stop
The wholesome exchange quickly won people over online. “From all of us here on tik Tok [sic] I would like to tell you we love you for doing this,” one viewer wrote. Another stated, “This is what the world needs more,” while someone else added, “I love when people look out for the wellbeing of others especially children!!! You are the best.”
“YOU BETTER LIVE THERE TIL [sic] HE GRADUATES,” another person joked.
Some viewers were already thinking about what the couple could add next. “That is so kind of you. Maybe put a roof over it for when it rains?” one suggested. Another commented, “You are the best! Sincerely a kid who had to wait at a bus stop at the end of my street. Man those cold rainy mornings sucked. Maybe an umbrella?!”
Others even wanted to contribute themselves. “Aww do you have an Amazon wishlist? I would love to donate !!” one person asked, while another offered, “Can we donate to put some snacks for him.”
Some Viewers Had Questions About His Parents
While many were singing the couple’s praises in the comments, some people, however, wondered why the child’s family had dropped him off in front of a stranger’s home and left before his bus arrived.
“My question is why are the parents just leaving their kid at a random persons house to wait for the bus? I’m glad they picked you because this is above and beyond for sure….. but kind of wondering what’s up w the parents?” one commenter questioned. Someone else said, “The parents not staying until the bus leaves is sketchy. You never know whose house that is or what people will drive by and snatch a child.”
The teacher later provided a little more context, explaining that the spot is the bus stop for that particular student and that he lives farther down in the neighborhood. She also shared that they haven’t created a wishlist yet for the boy and are considering viewers’ suggestions for something to protect him from the rain.
