A black woman in Washington D.C. shared a video online claiming that a white man was targeting black women and attempting to solicit them for money.
In the video, the woman did not show her face as she warned other women to be cautious if they were walking around Dupont Circle or the West End. “I need for you to listen to this as a warning,” she said.
She claimed that a man in the area had been “targeting and harassing young black women.” She then shared a photo of the man, alleging that his tactic was to approach women on the street, pretend he did not know them, and attempt to hand them a folded piece of paper.
The woman claimed that the paper was for “soliciting you for money” and alleged that the man had tried to approach her in the same way four times. According to her account, one incident occurred in winter 2024, while the other three happened in the summer, suggesting she encountered him repeatedly over an extended period. She also included additional photos of the man in the video.
As further evidence, the woman shared a photo of a note she said the man gave her. The note appeared to read, “You look gorgeous! If you are interested in a business arrangement for more $, text me at [blurred number] :).” A folded $20 bill was pictured next to the note, which she said the man also gave her. She said the note and money were given to her last August.
She also shared a photo of another note alongside money that she alleged the man gave her in November 2024. The note read, “I think that you are absolutely gorgeous!! If you are ever interested in a sugar daddy, text me at [redacted number]. You won’t regret it!”
What Happened Next
After providing context about the alleged harassment, the woman began describing the incident that occurred in August. She said she was walking down the street when she passed the man as he sat on the sidewalk. She recognized him from previous encounters, but claimed that he did not recognize her.
As she continued walking, she said that she crossed the street at a traffic light and headed in the opposite direction. According to her, something “felt off,” prompting her to stop and check her surroundings. When she turned around, she claimed the man was standing right behind her. She said he was “super close” to her and holding out the same type of note he allegedly handed her during previous encounters. To support her account, she included a short video clip that appeared to show the man walking away from her.
The woman said she took out her phone to record him and realized that he had followed her across the street to hand her the paper. “But, luckily, a group of guys literally at the park right next to us saw the whole thing and stepped in to confront him. But, the second he got called out, he tried to act totally innocent and said, ‘oh, I’m sorry, and I just ran into you. I’m so sorry’,” she said. She added that the man then crossed the street again.
“It’s very clear that he had followed me across the street to try to hand me a solicitation note,” she accused him. She also said she was sharing all the information she had and asked anyone who knew more about the man to share it as well. “This man is seen usually on M Street Northwest in New Hampshire, cross streets,” she said. She added that she did not know whether he was dangerous.
The woman also described the method she claimed the man used to solicit women. It allegedly involved giving them money and complimenting them. She asked anyone with information about him to message her and said that she already knew where he worked.
The woman appeared to indicate that she had already filed a police report. She wrote in her caption, “Please DM if you’ve had this exact interaction so we can add it to the MPD report. Stay safe out there. Enough is enough and I have more evidence.”
She also added a comment saying, “I am safe, thank you. We have contacted our neighbors just to be extra safe and have added other safety precautions and everyone is on neighborhood watch. We have had a neighborhood meeting and are working out next steps for my general safety since he recognizes me now from taking photos of him. He has been posted in my neighborhood email group. I think he is aware of me by now unfortunately. If you see him, please dm me.” It was not clear whether police had taken any action at the time.
