A woman in San Francisco, California, chose to travel to her destination by Waymo. While the trip most likely was spotless, things changed once she arrived. She couldn’t open the door, and she was effectively trapped inside the self-driving vehicle; at least for a bit.
TikToker Grace of the Moment shared her Waymo experience on TikTok. She is a content creator who shares a variety of clips, including lifestyle vlogs, mukbangs, and occasional trends. The video attached above went on to become one of her biggest to date. It garnered 521,200 views, 56,300 likes, and more than 200 comments in a matter of days.
The California woman’s clip showed her particularly upset and worried from the get-go. She had just arrived at her destination, but she was having issues getting out of her Waymo. As a demonstration, she attempted to open the door handle twice, unsuccessfully.
“Thank god I’m not claustrophobic,” Grace captioned her clip.
Eventually, she contacted Waymo’s Rider Support, and a live agent talked to her, asking how he could help her. She said, “Hi. The door isn’t opening.” The agent, surprised, told her she would have the door opened for her, but not before asking if she had tried pulling the lever twice. She had done so, to no avail.
Thankfully, her time stuck inside the Waymo came to an end, as the agent was able to remotely open the door for her. She thanked the agent and then exited the car, ready to finally get to her destination. And while she was freed from her impromptu prison, the California woman believed such an issue could be dangerous in the long run.
“This feels like a serious safety violation,” she wrote in the clip’s description.
Social Media Reactions
Viewers seemed to agree with her worries online. One said, “Ugh, I’m already afraid to try one. Glad you got out.” Another one commented, “Thank god my morals keep me from getting into a robot that will trap me.”
Others, however, thought that Grace was rude to the agent. One wrote, “Bruh, he’s just a customer support agent. Why you gotta have that attitude for?” Another one added, “Don’t take it out on him. He’s just a worker.”
Grace clarified that, while indeed frustrated, she was directing her feelings at the situation, not the agent in particular. Others echoed this sentiment in the comments, saying that others were exaggerating in their assessments. Either way, getting stuck in a Waymo is not something to be taken lightly at all.
