Texas-born actress and producer Dakota Johnson is going viral after a recent appearance on Hot Ones from First We Feast as part of her tour for Verity, her latest film with co-stars Josh Hartnett and Anne Hathaway. Johnson, 37, admitted to a rather embarrassing move she made to prepare for some of her film roles: growing out her pubic hair for both Madame Web and the controversial Fifty Shades of Grey.
She made the admission on the most recent episode of Hot Ones Versus, released October 6, where Hathaway made both Johnson and Hartnett choose between eating one of the spicier wings in the challenge or confessing something embarrassing; Johnson, overwhelmed by the previous wings, blurted out her confession quickly.
“I grew my pubic hair,” claims Johnson, with Hathaway and Hartnett bursting into laughter. “For Madame Web, for Fifty Shades,” added Johnson, defending herself further with, “I don’t want to eat one of these [expletive],” referring to the spicy chicken wing. Johnson also seemed to want to joke about it after Hartnett took his turn to confess something.
Johnson has appeared on Hot Ones before, where she also struggled with the spicy wings, though the show’s format was different then and didn’t lead to an intimate confession. Interestingly enough, Johnson’s body hair in Fifty Shades of Grey has been a hot topic since 2015 because her character’s pubic hair was confirmed to be CGI.

In any case, Johnson’s confession has the internet talking, with reactions ranging from praise for her candidness to jokes about her bangs and how the effort might have been unnecessary for Madame Web. “I love her so much…FULL FRONTAL??? AND IT WAS ON THEATERS??? how did the puritan US cinemas allowed that?” questioned one fan. “OMG her mouth has no filter,” points out another X user.
Another fan echoed the sentiment with an equally candid confession, “dakota saying whatever pops into her head is exactly my love language i had a similar moment on a first date once, word vomited something f!lthy, he just stared… still worked out great for me later that night tho.” Others joked about Johnson’s past roles, with a Facebook page even urging her, “As long as she never grows out those bangs.”
Some, however, found the buzz about the hair a little weird, with one commenter stating, “An adult has pubes and this is considered news?” Meanwhile, another vigilant fan questioned Johnson’s confession, since it seems her body hair in Fifty Shades was common knowledge: “But I thought people said they had to cgi the pubes.”
