Texas community college student and Reddit user Big_Marzipan3904 had quite the misfortune whilst on their way to their exam. The test required Scantrons, the widely used test sheets often used for easy grading, but in OP’s case, these sheets had to be supplied by students. What was worse, however, was that the vending machine selling Scantrons decided Marzipan shouldn’t get theirs, leaving the paper stuck on a note behind the glass when the exam time was minutes away.
Marzipan said they took a photo of the comically frustrating scene to show it later to their professor to prove they had bought but couldn’t receive their Scantron. But they also decided to upload it to r/mildlyinfuriating, sparking quite the discussion on Reddit. While buying Scantrons isn’t exactly a new concept in universities, plenty of people never had to. Then came the next shocker for many: a vending machine sells these test sheets.
Many Redditors Were Shocked at Vending Machine Selling Scantrons
“What in dystopian h christ am I looking at here?” demanded a commenter; over 20K upvoters wanted to know as well. “Wtf … kids are paying for Scantrons now? What are taxes even going to at this point?” exclaimed another, likely not having paid for their own during their school days. “Aren’t the schools required to provide Scantrons? For their stupid tests??? This is dystopian as hell,” agreed a third.
For clarification, private universities can sell students Scantrons, while K-12 public schools have stronger restrictions around forcing students to pay for supplies. Some commenters claimed they too had to buy their own Scantrons back in the day. Still, few could imagine a vending machine selling the things. “This is a whole new thing for me. I’ve never seen a test forms vending machine. I can’t decide if I’m officially old now or if schools are just the Wild West,” remarked a Redditor.
As to what happened to Marzipan, despite their unlucky pull with the vending machine, they said another student gave them a spare Scantron. So, things worked out for their exam in the end.
