A white Ohio worker was allegedly suspended after playing a racist song while at work. A man who worked alongside the Ohio employee shared a video online showing the song playing in the workplace. The music appeared to be loud enough for everyone nearby to hear. Given the song’s content, the man described his coworker as racist. He wrote across the video, “Racist co worker music is different.” He also added in the caption, “Ear plugs were necessary.”
The song the worker played appeared to be “WhiteBoy” by Tom MacDonald. This is based on comments from viewers who shared pictures of the singer. The lyrics heard in the video included, “These diamonds are from Nigeria, they are African American, Is it a sin that I’m proud of my skin, I’m a white boy.” However, some viewers suspected that the audio had been edited using AI. This was allegedly to make it sound like MacDonald was singing lyrics that do not appear in the original song. Because of these differences, it remains unverified whether the track was an AI-generated version of MacDonald’s song. It could also be a different recording altogether.
Tom MacDonald’s “WhiteBoy” has also faced criticism for its racial themes and portrayal of white identity. Released in 2018, the song addresses race, privilege, and discrimination. MacDonald argued that white people should be able to express pride in their identity without being judged for it. However, critics have described the lyrics and their comparisons between the experiences of white and black Americans as racially divisive. They argued that they downplay the historical and systemic discrimination faced by black people.
These themes have led some listeners to describe the song as racist, while supporters view it as a defense of white identity and an expression of frustration over what they perceive as double standards surrounding race.
After sharing the video of the song playing at work, the man revealed in a comment that the worker had faced consequences. “He got suspended,” he wrote. It remains unclear whether the worker will face any further disciplinary action.
Viewers Slam Ohio Worker Over Racist Song
Many viewers criticized the Ohio worker over the song he was allegedly playing, with some describing it as racist and sharing how they would have responded if they had heard it at work. “HR would hear this whole song in the email,” one person wrote. Another addressed the man who filmed the incident, saying, “You look like you’re in pain and I would be too.”
More viewers reacted to the video, with some speculating that the worker was testing his coworker’s reaction by playing the song. “Bro was testing the water playing [expletive] to you,” one person wrote. Another asked, “And was really playing it on speaker?” Someone else questioned the audio’s authenticity, writing, “I can’t tell if this is AI or tom McDonald.”
The video led viewers to discuss how employees should respond when coworkers play music they consider racist in the workplace. Some also emphasized the importance of employers holding workers accountable when their behavior creates an uncomfortable or potentially hostile work environment.
