Florida U.S. Senator Ashley Moody posted on X that she had delivered the largest tax cuts in American history, citing the end of taxes on tips and Social Security. The message, which included a campaign video, drew dozens of replies. Many users questioned the description, pointing out that the tip and Social Security provisions are temporary deductions scheduled to expire in 2028.

In the clip, the narration describes a server who “works nine-hour shifts mostly on her feet” and customers who “spent forty years paying into Social Security,” adding that “every dollar in this diner was earned.”

Moody then appears on camera and says, “I’m Ashley Moody, and I voted to stop taxing tips and Social Security,” while stating that her opponent “backed a four trillion dollar tax hike on everyone in this diner” and that “it’s socialism or freedom.”

The post text reads that Moody is “proud to have delivered the largest tax cuts in American history — no more taxes on tips or Social Security.” Background on the measures shows they were part of the Working Families Tax Cuts signed into law in 2025; the tip and Social Security provisions are temporary deductions available through 2028.

Treasury data released around the one-year mark reported that more than 7.5 million filers claimed the tip deduction and more than 35 million seniors used the enhanced senior deduction, with Florida filers receiving among the higher average federal refunds.

Online Responses to Sen. Moody’s Tax Cut Post

Several replies focused on the temporary status of the provisions. One user wrote, “They are only good until 2028. Why not tell the full truth?”

Another stated, “You lie – Tips + SS is temporary; only Rich got the permanent tax cuts.”

A separate comment said, “Neither of those qualify as the largest tax cuts in American history, and both expire in a couple of years. Stop lying, you’ve done nothing literally to help Floridians.”

Other responses questioned the legislation’s broader effects, including one that claimed, “You cut millions of people off of food assistance and healthcare to give billionaires tax breaks and added $4.3T to the debt in the process.”
