A mother in Indiana has left many social media users horrified after sharing a video of her young daughter pressing down on a goldfish inside a plastic bag filled with water. The disturbing moment has raised concerns about the child’s behavior, with some viewers urging the mother to take the incident seriously and seek professional evaluation.
The video, posted on TikTok by @mikayaaaaaa, has received more than 8 million views. According to the context surrounding the clip, bags containing goldfish had reportedly been handed out to children as party favors at a birthday celebration.
In the footage, the little girl is seen standing beside a table decorated with a cow-print tablecloth, birthday favors, and coloring sheets. In front of her is one of the fish bags, and the girl places her hands on it, trying to squish a goldfish.
Her mom, who was recording, caught her doing that and immediately exclaimed, “Oh my God, Michael Myers,” apparently comparing her daughter to the fictional horror movie character. Another adult quickly intervened and lightly pushed the child away from the bag.
The mother then asked her daughter why she would do something like that. However, the girl did not respond and instead rushed back toward the table, seemingly attempting to reach for the bag again. Before she could do so, the other adult picked it up and moved it out of her reach.
The mother then started laughing in the background, although it was unclear whether she was simply reacting in disbelief to what she had just witnessed.
Viewers Express Concern Over Child’s Behavior
The situation, however, was anything but funny to many viewers, who were particularly disturbed by the girl’s actions and how the mom had reacted. The comments section quickly filled with criticism, with several people comparing the little girl to the horror movie character her mother had mentioned.
“I’m calling the cops on ur mini Michael Myers,” one viewer wrote. “What she did to the goldfish was depraved,” another stated. A third said, “Its extremely concerning that she crushed that goldfish with no remorse.” A fourth added, “That is not normal behavior and it is not funny.”
Someone else remarked, “That was psychotic,” while another harshly concluded, “She’s evil.”
Some commenters went further, suggesting that the mother seek professional help for her daughter’s behavior.
“As someone who has a degree in criminal justice and currently a child behavior therapist PLEASE get resources for your child,” one person advised. Another agreed, writing, “Girl you NEED to take this seriously!!? [Harming] animals as a kid with no emotion is the NUMBER ONE indicator of someone who will do harm in the future! it escalates! please get her help!!”
Although the video has understandably upset viewers, it does not provide enough information to draw conclusions about the child’s psychological state or whether her actions reflect a broader pattern of behavior. It is also unclear from the footage whether the fish died or whether any other fish in the bag were harmed.
Mother Also Faces Criticism for Laughing
Several viewers were equally upset with the adults present, particularly the mother, whom they accused of treating the incident like a joke instead of correcting her daughter.
“Yall made me mad not even correcting her just sitting there joking around,” one commenter complained. Another comment read, “Yall got the nerve to laugh talking about Michael Myers then she tried to reach for it a 2nd time nd yall just standing there laughing and recording.”
The mother has since disabled comments on the TikTok video, although the post remains available. Screenshots circulating online also appear to show a response allegedly made by the mother before the comments were turned off.
“Them lil [expletive] feeder fish was gone die anyways,” she reportedly wrote in response to a commenter.
As of this writing, the mother has not shared any further updates about the incident or the condition of the fish.
