A woman in Washington decided to hike a viral trail she saw online. However, as she was coming down, her eyelids soon became swollen, meaning she was suffering from a severe and spontaneous allergic reaction. After unsuccessful attempts to control it, she eventually saw herself at urgent care.
Ashleigh Johnson shared her allergic reaction experience on TikTok. She regularly posts vlogs, trends, and other similar content online. The clip attached above quickly became her biggest one to date. It garnered 2.3 million views, 191,700 likes, and close to 1,800 comments.
The Washington woman was doing the viral Blue Lake Trail, which is characterized by the stunning and colorful lake following a 2-hour hike through the woods. For Ashleigh, however, things got bad once she was on the way back. Suddenly, one of her eyes began to swell up, potentially caused by airborne allergens such as pollen or dust.
Urgent Care Visit
Back on the road, Ashleigh took some Claritin, washed her eye with water, and even used eye drops. She was hoping to get rid of the allergen behind her swelling. Hours later, and after some sleep and some Benadryl, it appeared that her face was slowly coming back to normal. Unfortunately for her, her eye troubles were far from over.
The very next day, Ashleigh woke up to see her face swollen up once again, especially her eye. She knew things now required a more serious approach.
“I should go to the emergency room, and I don’t have health insurance,” the Washington woman said. “I don’t know what they’re gonna do for me, but like, it’s never been this bad.”
After a stop at Starbucks, Ashleigh arrived at a local urgent care center. She was prescribed a corticosteroid medication.
Reactions
Many viewers reacted to her allergic reaction, especially to how quickly it manifested. One said, “The nurse in me was STRESSED during the beginning of this.” Another one commented, “This is absolutely crazy! Do you normally have bag allergies?” Ashleigh responded by saying she does have very reactive allergies, but hadn’t had an episode in a while.
Some viewers complimented Ashleigh’s friends, who stood by her every step of the way. One wrote, “You have the realest friends. They took you and stayed with you during your hospital visit.” Others, most likely those who didn’t finish watching the clip, told her to go to the hospital. One added, “You need to get to the hospital now, it ain’t no Claritin.”
In follow-up clips, Ashleigh’s eye showed a significant improvement. She, however, still doesn’t know what triggered the allergic reaction.
