New York Customers inside a New York Starbucks watched in disbelief after a man was caught on video allegedly emptying the store’s tip jar before calmly walking out the front door.

The video was filmed by a customer inside a Starbucks in the Bronx and later shared online. According to the person recording, the man had already taken the money from the tip jar before the video began. “He just took the tip out of the tip thing,” the customer said while filming the man as he left the cafe. The video then showed him walking down the street after exiting the store.

The customer then turned the camera toward the employees and other patrons, repeatedly expressing disbelief that the man had allegedly taken the tips. He also filmed the tip jar, which appeared to be nearly empty except for two coins. Before ending the video, the customer pointed out that the man had not been wearing a mask during the incident, leading some viewers to speculate that he could be easier for authorities to identify.

Many viewers pointed out that the money belonged to the baristas rather than the business itself, arguing that the alleged theft directly impacted employees who had earned the tips.

Viewers Outraged After New York Man Steals Starbucks Tip Jar

Many viewers said they hoped the man would be identified after the customer recorded him leaving the café. “Good thing someone was recording,” one person wrote. Another commenter said, “class a misdemeanor for what, maybe 40 bucks in crumpled singles. No mask either so nypd has his face on 4k camera for pocket change that won’t even get prosecuted.”

More viewers weighed in on the incident, with some discussing how businesses try to prevent theft. “Social experiment. There are now more places that are closer to the inner city that has tip jars bolted to the counter and as you travel further away, high trust society is restored,” one person wrote. Others took a different view of the incident. “I actually approve. What those slow workers don’t deserve tips. They would be faster if that tip jar was all they got for a daily salary,” another commenter said.

The video sparked a conversation about the challenges retail businesses and their employees face, including theft and the impact it can have on workers. It also led to discussions about law enforcement, with many viewers arguing that people accused of theft should be identified quickly and held accountable through the legal process.
