Spencer Pratt accused California Rep. Ro Khanna of misrepresenting France’s protests after the Democrat linked the unrest to wealth inequality. Pratt claimed Khanna downplayed riots that damaged businesses and historic buildings in Paris. Their clash followed Khanna’s rejection of Vice President JD Vance’s argument blaming immigration policies for the unrest.
The dispute unfolded on X after Vance blamed Western liberals for bringing immigrants into France without addressing assimilation. He warned of further destruction and claimed congressional Democrats wanted a similar future for America.
Khanna rejected that argument, calling Vance “not just morally wrong, but misreading the moment.” He pointed to students in France demanding safer schools, affordable housing in Spain and jobs in Albania. He argued that young people were losing hope as wealth and power concentrated among a few.
He continued, “I unequivocally condemn violence and vandalism.” However, he urged people not to ignore young people’s anger over billionaires buying politicians and political corruption.
Pratt fired back, accusing Khanna of portraying what he called “mass communist riots” as a “noble ‘ask’ for justice.” “These commies lie as easily as they breathe,” he wrote.
Spencer Pratt’s Criticism of Ro Khanna Over France Protests Draws Mixed Reactions
The exchange drew divided responses on X, with users disputing how the unrest should be characterized and what fueled it.
One user questioned Khanna’s description of the protesters, writing, “Those are not students and those are not peaceful protesters! He might want to talk to the business owners that their businesses got destroyed!!” Another pointed to the demands for better education, remarking, “Nothing says I want better schools than looting stores.”
Others challenged the congressman’s economic argument. “The way he talks about wealth inequality like he’s not part of the ‘problem,’” one response stated. Another questioned Europe’s economic policies, asking, “Why aren’t socialist policies in Europe delivering it?”
However, some pushed back against Pratt’s criticism. One user challenged his terminology, writing, “You throw that word ‘communist’ around as if you knew what its definition is. But you don’t.” Another questioned his political position: “What’s your plan, dummy? Let Trump continue destroying America and enriching the already-rich Epstein class?”
The disagreement leaves the causes of France’s unrest and the interpretation of the demonstrations contested.
