Fans online were left unimpressed after California-based actor Dylan Sprouse claimed that he and his twin brother, Cole Sprouse, are “children of incest.”
During an episode of the Wildman podcast, Dylan revealed that he had used the genealogy program Ancestry to explore his and Cole’s family tree. “When I first took it, my actual breakdown of history was very different than it is now,” he said.
As Dylan dug deeper into his family’s history, he discovered something “weird.” Their parents’ families had intermarried in the late 1800s, generations before their mother and father got together. According to TMZ, the two families first connected through marriage in California, then went their separate ways, and eventually came back together when Dylan and Cole’s parents married.
While Dylan explored their family’s history, his twin brother, Cole, showed little interest in learning about it. Dylan explained that he called Cole to share his findings and even sent him photographic evidence, but his brother was not eager to see it. “He goes, ‘Not looking at that,’ closed it, hung up on me,” Dylan recalled. After sharing the details on the podcast, Dylan concluded that he and Cole were “children of incest.”
However, Dylan’s claim does not necessarily mean that the twins are the product of an incestuous relationship. Shared ancestry does not automatically mean two people are closely related; the degree of biological relatedness matters.
The key question is how closely related their parents were, rather than simply whether their family trees overlap. Without evidence establishing the degree of relatedness between their parents, there is insufficient information to conclude that the twins were born from an incestuous relationship. Dylan’s description may therefore have been an exaggeration of his family’s complicated history or a joke rather than a scientifically fact.
Fans Unimpressed By California-Based Actor’s Discovery
Fans weren’t particularly impressed by California-based actor Dylan Sprouse’s comments about his family history. Some argued that the discovery did not necessarily make him and his twin brother, Cole, children of incest and questioned why Dylan chose to share the information publicly. “I just read this and he said his brother wanted nothing to do with it. Even hung up the phone on him about it. So why is he sharing this? It obviously makes his brother feel uncomfortable. He could have kept that to himself,” one person wrote. Another commenter questioned his description of their family history, saying, “I don’t think you should call yourself a child of incest if the incest in question occurred in the 1800s.”
Other fans also took issue with Dylan’s comments, with one person writing, “Batman wouldn’t get this information out of me.” Another commenter expressed anger over his decision to share the information publicly, arguing that the family history dated back generations and that his parents should not have been dragged into the discussion. “Ok, from everything available, this is a generational thing. Which means [expletive] him, imo. You just made a public statement to try and keep your media exposure at the expense of your parents. They had nothing to do with this. Granted, idk their relationship or anything, but [expletive] is this? Just reaching for relevance, whatever that is. Pathetic,” they wrote.
Dylan’s comments prompted discussion about the boundaries of sharing personal family matters in public, with some viewers questioning whether such private information needed to be made public. Others pointed out that family trees can overlap when traced back far enough, meaning distant shared ancestry does not necessarily indicate a close biological relationship.
