A woman has alerted the public about a possible case of animal abuse at a residential building in New York. The woman said in a TikTok video that her friend had witnessed a severely underweight pit bull allegedly being mistreated by its owner. She asked people to help get the dog to safety.
Photos showing the dog’s concerning appearance were also included in the TikTok post and have sparked outrage online. Many viewers are demanding that the animal be rescued and its owner investigated.
The woman, who goes by @misteph2 on TikTok, explained that her friend, who works for the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), encountered the dog while working at a residential building on Soundview Avenue in the Bronx. According to her, the dog appeared “starved” and “severely malnourished,” with its ribs and spine clearly visible.
The dog’s appearance wasn’t the only cause for concern. The woman claimed her friend witnessed the owner yelling at and kicking the animal.
“Just horrible the way it’s being treated,” the woman said. “If you could treat animals like that, that are helpless, then you’re [someone] who deserves anything and everything coming to them.”
She appealed to New Yorkers, particularly those living in the Soundview area, to help locate and rescue the dog. She also encouraged viewers to share the video and contact 311 or animal control to report the suspected mistreatment.
“We need to get this animal out,” she said.
Viewers Express Worry Over Dog’s Condition
Many viewers were horrified by the dog’s appearance in the TikTok post. Some angrily called for the owner to be reported to the authorities, while others hoped the animal would be rescued before its condition worsened.
“Report her this is so sad,” one person urged. “Please help this dog get away from a sadist owner,” pleaded another. “This is horrible please try to save that poor dog,” a third wrote. A fourth added, “The baby doesn’t deserve this treatment.”
Someone else chimed in, “Let’s find this dog and get it somewhere safe !! Also dare I say bring some type of charges against this lady.”
Other viewers expressed concern about the animal’s physical condition and behavior. “He looks scared he stiff [sic],” one person observed. “Yeah it definitely look un healthy. it should be removed before it to late [sic],” another wrote.
The woman who posted the TikTok offered to take the dog in if it was rescued, at least until a permanent home could be found. For now, it remains unclear whether the alleged mistreatment has been reported to animal welfare authorities or whether the dog has been rescued.
