A couple living in Midtown Atlanta, Georgia, woke up on Wednesday to discover that both their cars had been broken into. The girlfriend shared a TikTok video showing the damage and revealed that seven other vehicles on their street had also been targeted. The incident struck a nerve with Atlanta residents in the comments, some of whom complained about how crime has soured their view of the city.
The woman, who goes by @lillyy.doo on TikTok, filmed the aftermath of the break-ins. Her boyfriend’s car had a damaged window, with a piece of broken glass lying on the ground beside the vehicle.
The girlfriend’s car appeared to be in worse shape. One of its windows was shattered, and large pieces of broken glass were scattered across the driver’s seat and floor.
As the woman inspected her car, she joked about some of the belongings the thieves had left behind. These included her squishy toys, bubble wrap, a gold medal, Pilates socks, and a bag of clothes she had intended to donate.
However, she said she couldn’t immediately tell whether anything had been stolen because she couldn’t remember everything she had left in her car. It was also unclear whether anything had been taken from her boyfriend’s vehicle.
Despite the new headache they would have to deal with, the woman chose not to let it dampen her spirits. She said she and her boyfriend had moved into their new home just days earlier and had accepted that this was “the reality of living in Atlanta.”
“Thank you to our robber,” the girlfriend said sarcastically. “I’ve lived here for almost three years now, so it’s bound to happen, right? You know, matter of fact, I actually feel so special that they chose us.”
Viewers Express Frustration Over Atlanta Car Break-Ins
Several viewers sympathized with the couple, while others shared their frustrations about crime in Atlanta.
“This makes me so mad.. I’m so sorry,” one viewer wrote. “Honestly I bet they don’t even try the door. They just bust the windows for the fun of it,” another commented.
Several said they were considering moving elsewhere. “Lawless city!!! Who [expletive] in their right mind would move here!!! I’m so trying to get [expletive] out of Georgia,” one person complained. “This is why i’m moving to North Carolina C. Florida. or idk. I’m not raising my child here,” another said. “I hate it here so much. As soon as I can move I’m doing it,” a third person added.
Others weren’t particularly surprised by the break-ins. Some said they had come to expect such incidents and offered suggestions on how drivers could protect their vehicles.
“Don’t leave ANYTHING visible in your car. Not even a penny or charger cable. It’s sad that it’s that way, but I also learned first hand,” one advised. Another suggested, “A little controversial, but keeping your doors unlocked is less of a headache. I don’t keep anything of value in my car so snoop away. Dealing with insurance and broken windows are a no go!”
Someone else shared, “I be locking my car at random hours, just to let them know someone is watching my car.”
The couple did not say whether they planned to report the break-ins to the police. They also did not confirm whether anything had been stolen from either vehicle.
