Christina Ricci saw a stranger’s post about voting Red and asked the question that launched a thousand threads. Half the internet cheered her, half turned on her, and the fight says more about 2026 than either side wants to admit.
The California native, 46, lit the fuse on Threads days ago, replying to a post from an account describing itself as a 71-year-old Trump supporter whose family across several states plans to vote Republican in the midterms. The post rejected any “Communist” representation and closed with a declaration: “We are MAGA. And we won’t bend to them.” It was, by every visible measure, an ordinary political post from an ordinary account, until one of Hollywood’s most recognizable faces appeared in its replies.
“So you’re a sadist then? You enjoy other people suffering?” Ricci asked, clearly charged by the call to vote Red. “Because that’s what you voted for- more cruelty and suffering for your fellow human beings. And animals actually,” The Addams Family actress concluded. Her words caused quite a stir on Threads and on Reddit.
On the r/Fauxmoi subreddit, Ricci’s verbal attack was met with praise, with many Redditors joining in to dogpile the 71-year-old for her views. Some criticized the Trump supporter for misspelling Pennsylvania, while others were much harsher, calling her names and insults that went far beyond her political stance. “I cannot emphasize enough how stupid these people are. I have harrowing stories from the past decade here in TX,” exclaimed a user.
Many in the original Threads post were no different, slamming the older Republican voter for what she said, as well as many wishing ill on her livelihood and family. However, amidst all the backlash against the 71-year-old, a few online users questioned Christina Ricci’s comment, accusing her of being in the wrong by bullying a random Trump supporter.
Several Fans Felt Ricci’s Aggressive Response Was Unnecessary
“Demonizing others for their political viewpoints. Nice!” sarcastically remarked a commenter in a BuzzFeed article reporting the Threads post. “To call someone a sadist just because of who they vote for is stereotyping and I didn’t think that was very PC,” sighed another. “You are a politically ignorant and mediocre actress with a cliffhanger forehead,” wrote a third on Threads.
Several people even wondered whether janhunterlan is real and accused Ricci of getting worked up over a bot comment. That said, one fan made a point, arguing that an aggressive attack and personal insult over someone’s political views isn’t likely to change their mind, if not cause the opposite. “It’s the wrong kind of response if it’s not about preaching to the choir, and actually trying to make people like Maga lady reconsider,” they commented.
Whether Ricci aimed to persuade the 71-year-old to change her views is questionable, but if her goal was to rally Reddit and Threads to attack a random older voter, then she succeeded.
