A man was labeled ‘sick’ online after allegedly making a cruel comment about a 5-year-old child killed in the recent Oregon school shooting after seeing a photo of the boy wearing a Pride T-shirt.
Five-year-old Rhoam Summer was among the victims of the October 15 shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon. Three children, ages 5, 8, and 11, and 25-year-old teacher Megan Lambert were killed. A 7-year-old child and a 54-year-old teacher were also critically injured. Police said the 16-year-old shooter was fatally shot by a community member who followed him into the school.
TikTok user @megan_renee215 shared a video identifying the man as Christopher Dobbins and showing a screenshot of a Facebook account with that name.
The TikTok user then showed a picture of Rhoam, who was allegedly mocked after someone shared a photo of him wearing a Pride T-shirt online. The Facebook account shown in the video allegedly commented, ‘With a shirt like that the kid wasn’t going to Mount to [expletive] anyways.’ The shirt featured the words “Peace Respect Unity And Love,” with a special design that also spelled out “Pride,” a term associated with the LGBTQ+ community.
The comment appeared on his Facebook account, and he later changed his profile picture following the backlash.
Despite the criticism, some people online defended the man over his comment. Others went further and attacked the deceased child over his T-shirt instead of expressing sympathy for him. In response, the TikTok user said, “Y’all are [expletive] disgusting.” In response to the comments, the TikTok user said, ‘Y’all are [expletive] disgusting.’
