The Gosselin family war just gained its most credentialed witness: a psychiatric professional who says the troubled-son story never matched the young man living down her hall.
Collin Gosselin’s corner of the Pennsylvania family war gained a heavyweight Monday when Colleen Conrad, the psychiatric nurse practitioner who helped raise him, posted an Instagram statement taking direct aim at Kate Gosselin’s account of her estranged son, per Us Weekly.
Conrad is not a bystander with a take. She dated Jon Gosselin for nearly seven years before their 2021 split, and Collin lived under her roof until he turned 18. Her statement opens with the professional card: “I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner with more than 35 years of experience in healthcare.“
Then came the sentence built to land. “When Collin came to live with us, I did not observe the symptoms or behaviors I would have expected based on some of the diagnoses he had received, nor did I observe the behaviors that have since been publicly described,” she wrote, adding that his treatment wound down by the book: “In consultation with his treating physician, we gradually discontinued his medications under medical supervision.“
She called Kate’s recent statements “deeply concerning” and did not leave the point abstract. Mental health conditions are “real, complex and deserving of compassion and understanding,” she wrote. “However, they should never be used to dismiss another person’s lived experience or deflect legitimate questions about the past.“
The past in question is the one Collin, 22, laid out this month in his memoir rollout, accusing his mother of years of physical and emotional abuse. Kate has denied every allegation as unfounded and has answered critics herself on TikTok, defending her visits to the facility where Collin was placed as a child: “I visited EVERY single time the facility felt he was stable enough for a visit.” Of his account, she told one commenter: “he is choosing not to tell you that part.“
Conrad defended Collin once before, in 2022, against an earlier round of family accusations: he “was never violent.“
The Witness List Keeps Growing
What started as one son’s memoir has become a parade of voices: a former housekeeper backing Collin’s account, Collin accusing his sister Hannah of running damage control, and now a comment wall under Conrad’s post that ran overwhelmingly her way, as home turf does.
The most-liked reply came from another professional: “I am a therapist and a mom of a grown son myself. I would never, ever, disparage my son publicly, no matter what he said or did.” A second therapist kept it to principle: “Loving parents do not just drop their kids off and never look back. They don’t disparage their children well into adulthood.” This piece adjudicates nothing; the commenters are doing plenty.
Conrad closed her statement the way professionals do, with a line that reads calmer than it hits: “I believe these issues deserve to be addressed with honesty, responsibility and respect for the people involved.“
Kate has not responded to Conrad. Nobody expects that to last.
