A Kansas mother is calling out youth football officials after her Black middle school son was reportedly suspended for the rest of the season following an on-field confrontation. Tytianna Colbert alleges her son was targeted after an opposing player used a racial slur, sparking outrage over how the incident was handled.
The dispute unfolded during a game in Topeka, Kansas. Colbert said her son, Deshaun, had already scored three touchdowns when he came face-to-face with an opposing safety. She claims both players should have received taunting penalties, but only her son was ejected.
The family initially believed he would miss the remainder of that game. However, Colbert said they were later told he could not play for the rest of the season.
In a video shared on TikTok by @queenalexandra2u, parents and coaches can be heard challenging the decision. One woman pleads with officials to leave the upset children alone, saying, “Don’t intimidate our children. You already ruined their day.”
She later explains why the adults are so upset: “We’re not aggressive. We’re heartbroken. We’re hurt that you upheld a decision that was completely wrong after reviewing a video showing that that child did nothing wrong.”
The incident was also shared on X by @LongTimeHistory, who quoted Colbert’s account of the dispute. According to the post, her son had already scored three touchdowns before the confrontation with the opposing safety.
“They were looking for any reason to get him out!” the post quoted her as saying. She also alleged that her players had been punched, kicked, racially taunted, and subjected to face-mask fouls without penalties being called.
Colbert added in the TikTok comments that the director questioned her son’s ejection after reviewing the video, but officials still said he couldn’t play. She alleged that the opposing team’s head coach refused to let him return, despite another coach having no objection.
“When we played them last, my son ran 4 touchdowns on them. The score was 34-0!” she wrote, arguing that the decision should never have been left to the opposing team.
