Amid some serious GOP setbacks in the midterms, Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz has warned that Democrats are preparing for an aggressive showdown with President Donald Trump after their projected takeover of Congress. The Senator even predicted multiple impeachment attempts, investigations into the president’s family, and a potential blockade of judicial appointments.
Speaking on the Polymarket All In podcast on November 4, Cruz described the next two years as a period of “all-out partisan war,” arguing that Democrats would use their newly acquired congressional power to target the Trump administration.
“We will see subpoenas. We will see investigations. I think they will go after President Trump. I think they will go after his family. I think they will go after cabinet members,” Cruz said. The Texas senator also predicted that Democrats would attempt to impeach Trump repeatedly if they secured control of the House of Representatives. “I believe the House will impeach Donald Trump if they have the House. They may impeach him multiple times,” he added.
Cruz further suggested that War Secretary Pete Hegseth could face impeachment before the current congressional session ends, saying he expected proceedings against the Trump ally during the lame-duck period. Beyond investigations and impeachment, Cruz warned that Democrats could use their Senate majority to obstruct judicial confirmations.
He specifically pointed to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, predicting Democrats would refuse to advance judicial nominees and potentially leave a Supreme Court vacancy unfilled for two years. “I think Schumer and the Democrats will just halt all judges, which means if we have a Supreme Court vacancy, I think they’ll keep the vacancy open for two years,” Cruz said.
People Online Questioned Ted Cruz’s Line Of Thinking
Cruz’s comments came after Democrats made significant gains in the November 3 midterm elections, with projections indicating they had secured control of both chambers of Congress. The results represent a major loss for Republicans, who previously controlled the House and Senate. Democratic lawmakers will now have greater authority to investigate the administration, issue subpoenas, and challenge Trump’s legislative agenda.
However, Cruz’s predictions did not generate much sympathy among some social media users, with critics pointing to Republicans’ own record of blocking judicial nominations. “You could always run to Cancun!” one commenter wrote, referencing Cruz’s controversial 2021 trip to Mexico during a deadly winter storm in Texas.
Another asked: “You mean the way the Republicans blocked all of those liberal SCOTUS picks?” Others argued that Democrats would simply be adopting tactics previously used by Republicans. “Thus far Republicans are the only ones who have blocked Supreme Court nominees, so if we do decide to block, then I say we’re just playing how Republicans do,” another user commented.
Some also accused Cruz and his Republican colleagues of simply failing to deliver for voters. With Democrats preparing to take control of Congress, Cruz’s warnings suggest the political battle could define the remaining two years of Trump’s presidency.
