Stacy Garrity was recently defeated in the race for Governor of Pennsylvania and congratulated her opponent, Josh Shapiro, on social media. However, her post sparked outrage against the Republican Party among Pennsylvania voters, many of whom either saw her choice as poor or criticized the lack of support she received from the GOP.
On X, Garrity thanked Pennsylvanians for voting for her, knocking on doors, and making phone calls to help the campaign. She also said that “Pennsylvania’s best days are ahead of us,” regardless of which politician is in charge, thanks to the people of the Commonwealth.
With 98.7% of the vote counted at the time of this report, Garrity lost with 38.3% against Shapiro’s 60.4%, marking a big defeat for the Republican Party of Pennsylvania. During the race, Shapiro raised approximately 10 times as much as Garrity.
Voters Criticize GOP’s Lack of Support for Garrity’s Campaign
Conservative-leaning voters on X were generally sad to see Garrity lose the race. One of them wrote: “I prayed and supported you. Today is a dark day not just for Pennsylvania, but for the nation.”
Most people, however, criticized Garrity and her campaign, which some deemed doomed from the start: “Were you campaigning? I didn’t notice. I voted for you regardless. I put in more effort than you did.” Others said: “You guys ran a lousy campaign. You denied a Primary to & ignored voters. You didn’t do what you promised last time. That’s why you lost. It still looks like you did it on purpose.”
A main point of contention was that, despite her candidacy, the Republican Party simply did not invest much money in the race. According to one user, “The GOP didn’t have your back.” The view was shared by others: “The GOP should never have chosen you to run if they weren’t going to give you the proper support and funding. You never stood a chance against Shapiro and his outside donors.”
Some individuals, however, believed that receiving funds from and campaigning alongside skill game operators cost her the election: “Maybe campaign for anybody but skill games operators? Whole campaign was weird and cringe.”
With Josh Shapiro set to remain governor of Pennsylvania, the political future of Garrity and the state’s Republican Party remains uncertain.
