While plenty of people are rejoicing over the 2026 midterm election results, there are countless more who are gravely disappointed, including one alleged Indian-American from Louisiana. Going by the name Sunil Sharma, the man claimed that he came to the States 50 years ago and married a “white woman.” His goal was apparently to “be white in White America,” but with the Democratic landslide in the recent elections, his dreams have been somehow shattered. So, he’s moving back to India, but Reddit has doubts.
Sharma’s post was shared on r/stupidpeoplefacebook by Reddit user SheepherderRude4991, who called the voter an “Indian-American MAGAT leaving America after Blue Tsunami in Midterms.” There are immigrants and other non-white or non-American individuals who have supported and voted for Trump. Even among the Indian-American population, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace reported that 19% of a surveyed population said they’ll vote Republican, while 62% said they’d vote Democrat.
That said, Sharma’s story and feelings about the midterms as a Trump supporter could be completely real, but Redditors question whether Sunil Sharma is even a real person or just the username of a ragebait account. “An Indian immigrant being hardcore MAGA is wild,” remarked a commenter. “Who wants to bet it’s some Russian bot again?” agreed another.
Redditors Point Out Things in Sharma’s Photo that Don’t Add Up
Some people claimed there was evidence in the photo of Sharma’s suitcase that gave it away, such as the packed women’s bra or the random picture of a white man in the background. “The photo is fake for sure, unless this MAGA is also a cross-dresser,” wrote a Redditor. “Guy is too lazy to even stage a suitcase,” chimed in a second. Though, Sharma did state that he has white in-laws.
The same post was also shared on r/comedyheaven, where plenty of Redditors shared the same sentiment: this so-called Indian-American’s plans to return to India seemed like a post to troll actual people who oppose the midterm results. Still, there were multiple commenters who took the post seriously, accusing India of being “disgustingly racist,” while others supported the claim that Indian-Americans are supporting Trump.
Real or not, Sunil Sharma’s really got Redditors talking, with some even getting successfully outraged over the alleged plan to leave the US for India over the midterm.
