Layers of Fear 2 has officially been announced following a cryptic tease from developer Bloober Team earlier this year. At the time, the project was tentatively titled Project Melies but has since been revealed to be a sequel to their psychological horror first-person indie title.

It is not clear if the codename Project Melies is an important part of the story, but it is mentioned in the trailer briefly before we are greeted with the title Layers of Fear 2. Check out the reveal trailer below:

Layers of Fear 2 - Announcement Trailer [HD 1080P]

The first Layers of Fear released in February of 2016 and placed players in the shoes of a nameless protagonist who was haunted by his own paintings. The game wasn’t exactly a hit but, owing to its similarity to P.T., it became a fairly large success on Steam and across consoles as well. The game also had a definitive edition release on the Nintendo Switch earlier this year as well.

The first game mainly funneled you along down tight, poorly lit corridors with jump scares galore to keep you on your toes. You don’t have a weapon in the game, and it remains to be seen if that will change for Bloober Team’s sequel. At the time, thirst was still high for a game that could deliver (in some form) on promises made by Hideo Kojima’s Silent Hills demo, P.T.. While it doesn’t exactly reach the levels of disturbing imagery as that game did, Layers of Fear nonetheless scratches the horror itch by keeping you guessing at its mysteries among fun scares and simple puzzles.

Not many details were shared from Bloober Team and publisher Gun Media but it seems likely the game will be launching on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2019.

Did you play the first Layers of Fear? Do you think you have the stomach to take on the sequel? Let us know in the comments below.
