It seems that the Knights of Ren may finally be making an appearance in Star Wars: Episode IX. With the Skywalker Saga coming to a close, it is to be expected that the long-talked-about group of villains(?) would be making their debut in the final film. We aren’t so sure what their role will be in the film just yet, but expect to hear more news soon. This report comes from a source that witnessed are marketing presentation that suggested the inclusion of the Knights of Ren in the upcoming Episode IX.
A Reddit user that also attended the presentation elaborated a little more on Disney’s plans for the organization:
I totally forgot about them but they will definitely be in the next movie… They did show numerous pictures/artwork of them. I wish I had more details but at the very least it seems like they will play a bigger role than previous films. While I’m a Star Wars fan, I’m not a superfan like many of you so a lot of names/details/places probably were wasted on someone like me.
These reports aren’t completely confirmed, but Disney is known to reveal plans for upcoming films at marketing summits. Take the information with a grain of salt, but it’s looking like this one might be true. Another sign pointing to the inclusion of the Knights of Ren is that director J.J. Abrams is returning to helm the film, and he helped develop the new Skywalker Saga mythos (including, you guessed it, the Knights of Ren).
When asked why the Knights of Ren weren’t used in The Last Jedi, director Rian Johnson had this to say:
We have a very full movie already there literally was just not room for another element… I guess I could’ve used them in place of the Praetorian guards but then it would feel like wasting them because all those guards had to die… and if Kylo had some kind of connection to them it would’ve added a complication that wouldn’t have helped the scene… truth is I just didn’t see a place for them in the movie.
