X-Men movies are still being made and 20th Century Fox gave fans another look at the next installment in the series, Dark Phoenix.
The trailer shows Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) in the role of X-Men member Jean Grey. Set after the events of 2016s X-Men: Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix will follow Grey as she continues to control her mutant powers. It also seems as if Professor X plays a role in Jean’s transformation into the entity known as the Dark Phoenix.
The one-minute long Dark Phoenix trailer shows glimpses of a young Jean in a car traveling with her parents before a tragic accident. She meets up with Magneto, played magnificently by Michael Fassbender, where it appears he will help train her to understand and unleash her powers. Fans got a glimpse of Jean’s full capabilities in Apocalypse; however, it was just that, a glimpse.
Director of the film, Simon Kinberg, said in an interview with Comicbook.com,
“I see it as a new chapter,” Kinberg says. “I see it as taking the franchise in a different direction tonally. And that doesn’t mean that the next one will have the same tone, it just means that the next one can have a different tone. I think for many years, the X-Men, Bryan [Singer] really transformed the superhero genre in 2000 or 2001 when the first one came out. That’s almost 20 years ago. It is a long time ago. And at that time, superhero movies were not wildly popular, actually. There had been a few failures in the mid-90s, and there hadn’t been a lot of superhero movies, if any, around that time and X-Men sort of was revolutionary in its moment.”
As one of the most powerful mutants in existence as the Phoenix, Jean Grey’s connection with the Dark Phoenix or Phoenix Force, makes her even more dangerous and deadly.

We’ll see how closely it follows Marvel’s Dark Phoenix comic arc released in the 80s. X-Men: Dark Phoenix releases in theaters June 7th, 2019.
