Developer Electronics Arts has announced the brand new installment to their popular racing franchise, Need for Speed. The name is just that; Need for Speed. This is not followed by Underground, Rivals, Most Wanted, etc. This game will be a full reboot of the franchise.
Need for Speed is being developed by Ghost Games, the studio that also created Need for Speed: Rivals in 2013.
Ben Walke, Content and Community Manager of Ghost Games/EA, offered some insight on the reboot in his playstation blog.
With more than 20 years of history in its rear view mirror, we’re bringing Need for Speed back with a reboot that delivers on what Need for Speed stands for — rich customization, authentic urban car culture, a nocturnal open world, and an immersive narrative that drives your Need for Speed experience.
Customization was a common theme in the blog. The new Need for Speed game will allow the player to fully customize their vehicle.
Walke also wrote about the addition of Speedhunters.
We’ve been working really closely with Speedhunters, our very own community who have helped us deliver a Need for Speed that is grounded in authentic car culture by diving into the world of past, present, and emergent trends of the urban car scene.
Speedhunters is a blog about car culture that EA launched over seven years ago.
Lastly, Walke confirmed that the game will be shown at E3 2015.
Need for Speed is set to release in the Fall of 2015 on PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One. For owners of last gen consoles, it looks like the game will not be making an appearance.
