Ever since early 2018, we have heard that Disney had been in talks to acquire both the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises from 21st Century Fox. This has captured many people’s attention as we have been hearing little by little about it and speculating how everything will integrate into the Marvel Cinematicย Universe. It looks like the deal is finally coming to a close and we’ll have a better idea of how everything will work.
Disney’s planned 71.3 billion acquisition of 21st Century Fox is expected to go through in June of this year. This was found in an SEC (securities and exchange commission) filing from Walt Disney Company. Here’sย an interesting thing to think about when this deal goes through. Disney will own about 40% of the box office. It was said earlier this month that we should expect it sometime in March, so we can assume that there has been some kindย of delay since now we’re hearing that we should be expectingย the deal to finish a few months later. There are also still some concerns about what Disney will do with the Fox “R” Rated movies like the Deadpool series or Logan. We don’tย know if they will put those franchises on the shelf and decide not to make more mature superhero movies or decide to embrace the R-Rating.
Fox still has two movies that need to be released. X-Men: Dark Phoenix and New Mutants. Despite there being some people being pretty skepticalย of the whole thing, comic book fans might be happy that the X-Men and Fantastic Four universes will be integratedย into the Marvel Cinematicย Universe almost instantly.
