Oh, Game of Thrones, how you like to toy with our emotions you heartless, heartless people.

With season 8 less than 2 weeks away (excited squeal), HBO is starting to ramp up their hype machine for the final season. Normally a new trailer for a show everyone is excited for is a treat for the fans. A joy. A way to build excitement. Not so much for the latest Game of Thrones teaser.

Exciting yes, but not so much a treat. The latest trailer only gives fans a feeling of dread about what’s to come.

As you can see from the video, the trailer depicts Winterfell rather ominously and suggests not all will be well for the remaining Stark clan. Winterfell is snow covered and deserted. Whether that means something there’s no way of telling at this stage. As we’re taken through Winterfell, we are shown discarded items from beloved characters laying in the snow. Arya’s sword needle, Jamie’s prosthetic golden hand, and Jon’s sword Longclaw. There’s even a raven feather that falls slowly to the ground. Of course, this could all mean everything or it could all mean nothing. Fans are well aware that we’ll be losing a number of characters in the final season of Game of Thrones with the battle of Winterfell promising to be huge in the war against the dead. Winterfell could have fallen and the characters teased in the trailer are dead or have had to fall back, leaving certain items behind. It could also be that HBO is just messing with us and these characters will all be fine. The teaser could be designed purely to make us fear for our favorites.

Game of Thrones

One way or another, in 6 episodes time we’ll be saying goodbye to all the remaining characters we’ve loved since 2011.

What do you guys think? Does the trailer give us hints at these characters fates or is it just a way to build tension? How hyped are you for the final season and who do you think (if anyone) will sit on the Iron Throne? Let us know in the comments.
