We all know for a fact that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett are on the horizon. There have been countless “leaks” and rumors about what we’re going to get, and when we will see these consoles revealed. I’m here to bring you another rumor, one that comes with a heavy price. A price of $449 (I’ve read reports of $500 dollars elsewhere).

Like all rumors, this needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, but according to an anonymous user on Pastebin who claims to be working on an AAA game for the PlayStation 5 launch, the console will launch in 2020 with the above price entry point. The user says this would be a $100 loss per console sold by Sony.

The PlayStation 4 launched in 2013 at an initial cost of $399, some $50 less than the rumored PS5 launch pricing. Although, I’m sure Sony will be paying close attention to prices after the somewhat underwhelming launch of the PlayStation 3, which launched at $499 for the 20GB model and a whopping $599 for the 60GB one. It was a mistake they didn’t make for the PS4.

The poster does go on to give a lot more details on the PlayStation 5, all of which he claims are 99% true. They claim:

  • A release date of 2020, either March or November.
  • Backwards compatibility with new games on PSN and physical
  • A 2TB built-in hard drive and 8K upscaling
  • A new PSVR at a cost of $250
  • Dualshock 5 to include a built-in camera

There is a fair amount of information in the post including some detail on specs and a PS plus premium model. It also details apparent launch games that include Gran Turismo 7, The Last of us 2 Remaster and Grand Theft Auto 6. The latter being a rumored holiday 2020 release as opposed to day 1.

Take a look at the post for yourselves as it does go into a bit more depth than I have and make up your own minds as to the reliability of it. As I’ve said, there has been plenty of rumors floating around. Eventually, we will have to learn more about the new generation of consoles. What do you guys think about the price? Would you be happy to pay that much for a new PlayStation? What are you hoping to see on the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett? For me, I’d be happy to pay that if the console lets me play all the games from my collection of the 4 previous PlayStations. That would definitely be a dream come true.
