IT Chapter 2
This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information.

The original television miniseries based on Stephen King’s IT was a masterpiece, mainly thanks to Tim Curry’s magnificent performance as Pennywise, the dancing clown. Rewatching it now it hasn’t aged brilliantly, but to me, Tim Curry will always be Pennywise, I’d grown up with him in the role. Because of this, I went into the theatre in 2017 with much trepidation, and little hope, to see Andy Muschietti’s IT: Chapter 1.

I needn’t have worried, IT: Chapter 1 was pretty great, in my opinion. It changed eras from the originals 1960 (the ’50s in the book) and fed off the 80’s nostalgia wave which has been led by shows such as Stranger Things. For me, it worked. Part 1 saw us with the children of the Losers Club as they fought to banish the evil clown Pennywise, the titular “IT”.

Spoiler alert, they failed to finish the job properly and Pennywise is back for the sequel with the Losers Club all grown up and returning to finish what they started. It seems to have been a long time coming but we finally have a trailer for IT: Chapter 2, which you can see below:

I’m sure you’ll all agree that was quite a subdued trailer, although it’s nice for a film not to give away all of its best moments in the preview. I won’t go into detail about the plot here, most people will know it and those that don’t should have a watch or read, of the versions that are available.

IT: Chapter 2 releases on September 6th and will star James McAvoy, Jay Ryan, Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader Isaiah Mustafa, James Ransone, and Andy Bean as the members of the Losers Club. Once again, the child actors from the first film will appear in the form of flashbacks, including Strangers Things very own Finn Wolfhard. Bill Skarsgard will again play Pennywise. Skarsgard gave a great, unique performance as the clown in the first film, making it his own and not trying to rip off Tim Curry. I enjoyed his performance even though I went into it with my own doubts and prejudice.

What did you guys think of the trailer and the first film? Are you excited for part 2 or would you prefer to stick with the original mini-series or the book? Let us know in the comments.
