What I would describe as “Pacific Drive but Roblox,” A Dusty Trip has me hooked. You get that same obsession over wanting to drive just one more mile, even if it risks your life or worse, the life of your precious vehicle. It can be tough, though, and you aren’t exactly told all the mechanics of the game, which is a nightmare for newcomers. If you’re a beginner looking for tips and tricks in Roblox: A Dusty Trip, think of this as a tutorial you never got.
Building Your First Car in A Dusty Trip
One-half of A Dusty Trip revolves around your car; it’s how you get from point A to point B in the quickest and most efficient way. It also acts as a layer of protection against mutants (most of the time) and weather. Your car is your mobile fortress, so treat it as such!
You’ll get two choices: a van and a sedan. Out of the two, the van is the best vehicle in A Dusty Trip, even if you’re playing solo. It has more surface area, which is handy for attaching objects and has an extra seat if and when you bring friends.
To assemble your car, you’ll need:
- Doors
- Wheels
- Radiator
- Engine
- Gas
- Headlights
- Food
Everything you need is found in and around the garage. Simply pick it up and attach it to the car. Some objects have predetermined places, like car parts, while others can be attached to the vehicle itself, like food. Because of that, I highly suggest attaching food, weapons, and important resources inside the car.
How to Start Your Car in A Dusty Trip
Just about everything you need in A Dusty Trip is manually done, from opening your door to starting the car. It’s a bit tedious, but once you get the hang of it, it’s like second nature. To get your car on the road:
- Locate a gas canister. There’s one in the garage.
- With the gas canister in hand, use it on the gas tank on the side, like you would any car.
- Get in your car, release the handbrake (on your right, in-between the seats), and start the car.
Try to keep to the road; the experience is much smoother than that of the sand.
How To Turn On Your Car’s Lights in A Dusty Trip, Explained
If you decide to drive at night, which I don’t recommend, lights are obviously essential. To turn on lights in A Dusty Trip, you have to pick up the headlight, then left-click.
One thing to note: lights don’t use up any of your gas. If you so choose, you can attach a bunch of lights all over your car. Knock yourself out!
Surviving the Unforgiving Desert
The other half of A Dusty Trip is surviving until the next stop. For that to happen, you need supplies, such as food, oil, water, gas, and weapons. Your best bet is to cram as much as you can into your vehicle.
Food obviously fills your hunger bar, but oil, water, and gas are necessary for your car to function. Oil goes into your engine while water is for the radiator. All three resources can be found in gas canisters (which isn’t at all confusing). If you look at the cap of the canister, it’ll tell you whether it’s gas, oil, or water.
If you’re lucky, you might even come across some weapons, like axes, flyswatters, and guns. Be on the lookout for those because you can’t fight mutants unarmed.
How Combat Works in A Dusty Trip
Combat is a little tricky in A Dusty Trip as it’s entirely based on your movements, even when you’re wielding a gun. What I mean by that is if, say, you have an axe or flyswatter, you have to swing your hand to deal damage. And for guns, your reticle doesn’t determine the bullet’s trajectory, the end of the gun does. If it’s pointing off-kilter, it’s going to fire off-kilter.
One way to make combat easier, if you don’t mind cheesing, is to use doors and objects to trap mutants. For example, you can slip through a door that isn’t completely opened, but mutants can’t. As long as there’s a gap, you can beat the mutants to death or fill them with bullets.
Keep It Steady; It’s Not a Race
While going the distance is the main goal of A Dusty Trip, there’s no need to speed through as fast as possible. In fact, that’s a surefire way of getting stranded for miles. A better approach is to take your time and don’t rush things.
For example, you can miss crucial rest stops if you drive during the night, even with your headlights on. It may make your journey longer, but hunkering down for the night so you can have better visibility during the day can mean the difference between life and death.
This also applies to weather, especially sandstorms. Don’t try to drive through them — just shut off your car and wait it out. You’ll just waste gas trying to push through.
Share the Glory and Team Up With Friends
Last but certainly not least, I cannot stress just how tough A Dusty Trip can be by yourself. Trying to pick up items while you’re being chased down by mutants is frustrating. As dumb as the mutants are, a single mutant can kill you in seconds if they get within reach.
This is why you should always bring at least one friend. It’s exponentially easier since you can divide up the work, like one person keeps the attention of the mutants on them while the other gathers supplies. You can bring nine other players along for the ride!
