Marvel is diving back into the Ultimate Universe with a new ongoing Ultimates series. Ultimates #1 joins the several titles that have already spun out of Jonathan Hickman’s relaunch of the universe. This includes an Ultimate Spider-Man, Black Panther, and X-Men series. Now, a new team of heroes is assembling in Deniz Camp and Juan Figeri’s Ultimates #1. The series will usher in the next chapter of bold storytelling set within this new Ultimate Universe.
Ultimates #1
Ultimates #1 spins out of Hickman’s Ultimate Universe #1. In this universe, superheroes were stopped from emerging by the evil Maker, AKA Reed Richards of the original Ultimate Universe. To fight this, Tony Stark, going by Iron Lad, sent Peter Parker to be bitten by a radioactive spider, re-aligning his destiny to become Spider-Man. Since that successful endeavor, Iron Lad has teamed up with Captain America, Doom, Thor, and Sif of the Ultimate Universe. Together, this team is attempting to do the same thing for other lost heroes. This is creating a network of super-powered heroes ready to make some change.
With superheroes back on the board, they must team up to take on the Maker’s Council. This will help to restore freedom and give will back to an entire universe ruled by shadow. According to the cover of the Free Comic Book Day 2024: Spider-Man & The Ultimates Universe #1, this new Ultimates team will feature Stark’s Iron Lad. It will also see Ant-Man/Giant-Man and Wasp joining Captain America, Thor, Sif, and Doom.
The Creators
Deniz Camp shared their excitement about being part of such an event. They call this new Ultimates line the most exciting superhero comic event in years. As such, it is humbling to be a part of it. Mainly, Camp shared that they are excited to reinvent the stories and personalities of classic Marvel characters. They shared that this new Ultimates line is an evolution of the entire superhero concept.
