A Person in Chicago Realizes That It’s Better To Break up via Text Than To Be Ghosted: ‘They called your relationship a situation’

I prefer it, but that doesn’t mean I agree

Any breakup is pleasant, even if both people in the relationship agree, but sometimes it’s for the best. However, there are ways to approach things, and sometimes a simple message may not be the best way. Although this person in Chicago, Illinois, realized that it’s better to receive a text message to break up a relationship than to wait to be ghosted. It’s a complicated reality and somewhat unsatisfactory, but at least they know the reason.

Redditor Ill-Excitement3010 shared a screenshot on r/AmIOverreacting of how the person they were dating cut off communication between them. OP explains that the relationship, as such, was not yet formal, but they had already been on several dates and even had plans together the day when they received the text. However, OP was very surprised, and rightly so, after receiving a message like this. OP even sent another message asking their “partner” to explain the whole thing better, but got no response. So this person from Illinois had no choice but to accept the breakup, even if it was via text message. And that’s because OP wrote, “I know I can’t text him again and I just have to accept it.”

It’s a rather unsatisfactory ending for OP, since in addition to the little context provided by their “partner,” they have no information. This is what sparked a bit of discussion in the comments. Some users believe that a message is not the right way to break up with someone, but in modern times, many may accept it. Others believe that since the relationship was not even formal, OP should not expect much.

‘They called your relationship a “situation”… That’s enough to know it’s done. Also, someone popping into their life sounds like an ex or something that wants to rekindle,‘ said Leather_Text_353.

It’s true that at least getting a message is better than ending up ghosted. However, the right thing to do would have been to discuss things face-to-face and tell the truth. This is mainly because the message seems like a series of excuses that make you think that the “ex” had other options for a relationship or that one of his ex-partners reappeared in his life. Anyways, OP actually managed to dodge a huge bullet. Now, they can get on with their life and find someone who values them more.
